Ever play DND on a plane?

First Post
I'm going to Vegas next week with my girlfriend and I was toying with the idea of playing during the flight.

Most likely this will not happen, but I was wondering if anyone ever did or has thought of doing something like this.

I've never personally done this but I have thought about it and it is a worthwhile idea. Car, train, and bus trips are all also ptoential playing areas.

Minis are, of course, right out so you'll need to get used playing without them if you're not already.

Dice area nother big issue. I was thinking a large enough, though not to large, tray with raised lip around the edge would work great for this. A cookie sheet might work, though that's a bit large. There are also those electronic dice rollers, though I don't think I've ever seen one other than a d6. If you have lap top with you you're set.

Really if you have laptop with you it can probably do everything you might need all by itself. You could even use, say, MSpaint or something to keep a crude battle map going.

Though it's not D20 I also feel I should mention Sherpa which is generic little rpg specificalyl designed to be run outside or in other non-gaming-friendly situations, I believe it was originalyl designed for the author to use while hiking. It might have some good ideas you could plunder.

Scroll down, this is just the intro and the link to the actual text of the free version is easy to miss.

Given the current state of the world, talking about bladed weapons, fireballs, and killing people while on a plane may produce an undesired reaction from other passengers and cabin staff.

Funny. That was my first thought on seeing the thread title. Even better (or worse) if they're playing D20 modern.

dreaded_beast,

i'm guessing this will be more room than playing in your room. ;)

yes, i've played on a bus, on a train, in a plane, on a boat, in the trunk of my 48 Studebaker, on the front seat of a VW bug, in the middle of a hurricane, during a flashflood in NC driving to Spring Break, during a Grateful Dead tour, in the outfield of a beer league softball game, etc...

you really can play this anywhere. :D

I actually have played D&D on a plane, a full session even! It was on a flight from LA to China: a 16 hour flight. We just rolled dice on the little trays on the backs of the seats in front of us. Instead of minis, we used good ol' graph paper, pencil, eraser, and imagination. Other people didn't even notice since they were all sleeping, reading, or watching one of the movies.

My brother and I played to and from our fishing trip in Mexico in January. We did not use dice. I just printed out a series of random number I grabbed from random.org from 1-20. The next number represents "20" and the player guesses a number to establish their roll.

Example The list says 7 is the next number.
Player guesses 11.
7=20
6=19
5=18
4=17
3=16
2=15
1=14
20=13
etc
Therefore the player "rolled" a 4.

Obviously, the GM hides the list from the player's view and the player guesses rolls for the DM's dice rolls as well.

Once you get in the swing it goes very quickly.
