Everquest bashing

On the brighter side...

The most recent player to join our D&D gaming group did so, because she couldn't stand to play Everquest anymore.

Hehe, I played Everquest for about 3 years. More for the people I was with than for the game itself. Hmm I play both computer and paper RPGs, guess in some people's eyes I am a lesser gamer for that. Oh well.

I dunno...

In my experience, it's not so much the kind game you play, but how you play it.

wasn't there another time when a guy put his baby into the closet for 8 or so hour and it died because he got tired of listening to it cry because it disrupted his everquest playing?

all everquest is is a big graphic MUD. as anyone who has ever played them can tell you, its very easy to get sucked into a fantasy world especially when your RL sucks. course, you can do that with anything... reading, sports, CCG, DnD blah blah...

and Theuderic....
my wife woke me up this morning at 4 because she'd had a nightmare about our house getting broken into and somehow i saved the day, but got shot in the process....

when the news showed up to report on how a "North Texan saves family" in her dream it went like this....

reporter asks basic question..
I respond: "I prefer to keep my private life private."
reporter: "We just want to let North Texans know about your heroism."
I respond: "No, you want to let North Texans know about my heroism so you can sell more advertising. What corporation do you work for? Disney?"

she woke up there of course... :)

Are there people who ruin there lives playing everquest? I would say YES (having met and heard of many people who play almost to the exclusion of everything else).

But I am rather certain that these people would find a way to ruin there lives with something else if they didn't play Everquest. It is the individual's responsibility to live their life. Their actions are not caused by a game.

I didn't see that report on CBS yesterday, but a report I did see on CBS yesterday I found more disturbing; A report on the addiction of "Shoplifting". They interviewed a bunch of individuals who were "addicted" to shoplifting, and how it is caused by tramma in their life. It sounded to me like justification for their actions, and it was implied by many who were interviewed that it was a disease beyond their control.

What ever happened to personal responsibility?

What purpose is this thread intended to serve?

Criticizing news stations?

Criticizing Everquest?

Criticizing people who play too much Everquest?

Lamenting that D&D doesn't involve enough rat-slaying?

In any case, please keep it flame-free. Thanks.

Oh come now! I think the folks here are intelligent enought o recongize good-natured sarchasm when they see it! :D

(BTW I was very impressed with the MMORPG aspect of the game, as well as the graphics and interface. It's just not my kind of gaming experience. I just wish I had not dropped $54.98 to figure that out!)

No offense due, but a) money drives the train a little more over here. That is why we can have more than one phone company and the government does not own any of them. b) your commercials are no-where near as entertaining as ours. Remember the cat-herding commercial? Hee-hee...

DISCLAIMER: I lived in Germany for 3 years and adsolutly loved it there!
