Everquest/Warcraft/Diablo RPGs: Who are the buyers?

I plan on buying the Warcraft RPG once Amazon gets it in. I'm a long time fan of the games and the setting, so I'm really anxious to see the D&D campaign setting for it.

Me too.
For some reason I was really hooked on WC3 and really enjoyed the whole setting, plots, artwork... ok, all of it. So now I am really pumped to take some of the same settings and mechanics of the world and apply my own game to it.

I played OD&D first, before touching a computer, and played a lot of strategy games before moving on to SSI RPGs from way back before getting into RTS games like warcraft.

FWIW, everyone who's bought Warcraft from me (so far, and it's early yet) also bought Arcana Unearthed. Which says to me that they're D&D fans who like Warcraft and not the other way around.

I picked up the Everquest RPG. Mostly as a fanboy of the PC game. But after I read it, I got my group into trying it. Its great to beable to expand the adventures into more in depth Role Playing, than the typical railroading hack fest that EQ usually is.

One guy had never played D&D pnp before trying EQrpg. He enjoyed it so much he got the core books.

I agree, you can only go so far in the computer game. The TTRPG makes it possable to explore the world in greater detail.

The EG MMORPG is WAY too hack-based for my tastes, but the world looked promising if it could be more detailed in terms of history etc.

How well does it work, Hellhound? I couldn't stand the EQ CG ability system.

I bought the EQ PHB, it looks okay, but I have no plans on running a game (even though all of the players in my group have or are playing the EQ MMORPG).

So who are the buyers for the pen and paper versions of popular Computer-based RPGs such as Everquest, Warcraft and Diablo? Are the hard core fans of the CRPGs interested, or the audience more those already playing D&D? When I posted a note about the Warcraft RPG on a popular WC forum, the response seemed pretty lukewarm...

Same for Babylon 5/Stargate. Are the TV fans who've never played an RPG before drawn to try out the game?

I am primarily a table-top gamer, but I do play video games from time to time. I'm picking up the Warcraft rpg (and if they made a read Diablo d20 RPG I'd take a look at that) because the authors do much of the conversion work for me. My particular interest right now is in a couple of the monster species from Warcraft, and how best to model the Blizzard-style paladins of both Diablo and Warcraft.

Babylon 5 is in a related, but seperate category. Since it sells itself as both an rpg and a fact book it will appeal to some non-rpg B5 fans, and if that gets them into gaming then so be it, but mostly it helps sell more copies of the product. Guardians of Order do this with the Ultimate Fan Guide series - mostly fan guide, with a little BESM/Tri-Stat content in the back.

Like Dark Jezter, I am a long time fan of the Warcraft computer series. I will pickup the Warcraft book because I am interested in the setting. How much will I get to use it is another matter.
