Everquest/Warcraft/Diablo RPGs: Who are the buyers?

I picked up the Everquest core book and both Diablo books as impulse buys when they came out. Diablo is one of my favorite computer games ever, and I thoroughly enjoyed the little bit of EQ that I played (I was more into UO). Definitely a case of "P&P gamer first, CRPG player second" for me.

The Diablo books stunk, and the Everquest core book was gorgeous but also terrible, IMO. I sold both to my FLGS as soon as I had established that they were essentially useless to me.

Coupled with the fact that I've never played the PC game, this kept me from even considering the Warcraft RPG (which may mean I'm really missing out). ;)

I pick up the Warcraft RPG a few days ago. It is pretty good and i have a few players who are interested in it as well.

Never played EQ so i dont think i am very interested in it. B5 was an awesome show, but i cant see running a campiagn in it.

I played Warcraft I once and Diablo I once but never Everquest. I'm not really into computer games. I enjoy them but if I let myself I'd be sucked into them and so I avoid them do to time issues.

I got the 2e Diablo book which was a great supplement. I got the 3e Diablo which is much poorer but has nice class concepts (a little lacking on the mechanics and balance of the specific abilities though) and I think the concept for the style of the Diablo 3e paladin is better than the 3.0 or 3.5 paladin.

I also got the everquest PH which is pretty good, but I dislike how tough it is to evaluate spell levels and mana costs if you want to add to the magic system.

I do not currently have plans to pick up warcraft.

You could classify me as hardcore d20 fan, but not a computer game fan.

FWIW, everyone who's bought Warcraft from me (so far, and it's early yet) also bought Arcana Unearthed. Which says to me that they're D&D fans who like Warcraft and not the other way around.

Lol... yeah but everybody has been buying Arcana Unearthed. ;)

As for me, I love the Warcraft world and I've been much more excited about it than I was the Everquest books even. Diablo I was luke warm to and because of it's early release with 3E it doesn't hold much appeal to me anymore. (To clarify that: Books that were released about the time of 3E's release tend to have system snafus.)

Anyway, I highly recommend the 3 main EQ books and for sure the Warcraft RPG.

Little OT, is Warcraft just an RPG? Or is it going to have rules for building kingdoms, mass combat, etc?

I was wondering that myself, hoping that they incorporate it all, so I wrote them an email...

...and haven't heard back. My initial thought is no, that it only includes what a 'regular' campaign setting has, but no new rules on how to run an empire or conduct mass combat. And it doesn't tout it in there description, so I will be running to buy Fields of Blood when it comes out as it supposedly will cover all things big - governments, armies, combats, ruling PCs, etc.

The main book is primarily a player's book, so it's oriented towards individual characters -- classes, equipment, et cetera. There's some good advice on running Warcraft campaigns, but not a lot of GM-oriented rules.

Siege combat and other big battle stuff is almost certainly on the way (I drafted some siege stuff that didn't fit into the main book). I'm don't know if there's much in the way of "how to run an empire" being planned, but the stuff in Fields of Blood and similar books should snap right into the setting.

cheers,

The Alliance & Horde Compendium, the third book in the line, will include an entire chapter dedicated to mass combat ... using the rules from Malhavoc Press' Cry Havoc!

Right now, I don't know of any plans for including rules to build kingdoms 'n such. As Chris notes, though, books such as Fields of Blood will fit easily and perfectly -- the Warcraft RPG is D&D/d20.

By the way, whom did you email, MarauderX? Folks at SSS could be rather busy these days with the post-Gen Con recovery and catch-up. If you have other Warcraft questions, let me know!

Take care,
Mike

I just don't see how you could create Warcraft and not have rules for mass battle and kingdom running. Everything else is pretty simple conversions. I think simple rules and charts that correspond to the game cost would've been nice. You know, start with x-amount of GP, x-amount of lumber, you need x-amount of food. Then maybe cycle it on a 3-month cycle or some such. Oh well, CRY HAVOC will probably work close enough, then I'll just make some of my own. Thanks!
