Exalted?

By far I'm no expert having only played it a few times. However, I only played it a few times because I didn't like it. I felt there were things that didn't make sense. When you use your powers you glow or something else happens that makes it obvious you ar eusing your powers. Yet, some of the powers are stealth related. I created a stealth character not realizing it was pointless. So, I had a neghative first experience and never looked back.

Whats the setting like? its more or less a prequel to the WOD right? like Earthdawn's relationship to Shadowrun...

Sort of, there is the feel that it is a prequel but not so much that's being shoved down your throat. The setting I found rather bland. There are different types of exhalted and of course your being hunted. The world seems fnatasy like but really doesn't capture the feel as well as D&D, War Hammer, or even Palladium. All of this is of course my opinion, hopefully someone with more knowledge of it all can answer these better.

The night caste, which are the stealthy ones, have the ability to mute their power displays if I recall correctly, so when they need to be stealthy it shouldn't be a problem.

EXALTED!

*drools*

Sorry...

Anyhow...

It's a -possible- pre-history... sort of... basicly, if things had worked out differently in exalted, you might have had the normal WoD, eventualy. I think. It's kinda hard to understand. There are very clear "roots" in Exalted, yes. Some clearer than others... Fair Folk = Changelings, Lunar Exalted = Werewolves, Solar Exalted = Hunters (I think), Sidreal Exalted = Mages, etc. But it's a lot different too... those are just a rough fit, not an exact one.

It's sort of hard to explain the setting... There is a LOT to explain... It's sort of an asian/european fantasy hybrid, heavily anime/wuxia influenced. The Dragon-Blooded exalted rule most of the known world, or at least they claim to. The Sidreal exalted sit in the shadows pulling strings. The Solar Exalted rise to power once again to reclaim their position, while the Lunar Exalted rule the borderlands, and Fair Folk cross over from the Wyld lands. It's a setting with a lot of potential for almost any game type... exploration, kingdom ruling, court life, open war, treasure hunting, you name it.

The game is very high powered, make no mistake about that. Even the weakest castes of the Exalted are very powerful. Solars with a little experience under their belt are divine monsters. Veteran Dragon-Blooded are a force of nature in and of themselves. Even the most "hulk smash" type fighter has a number of charms, which are sort of a cross between feats and spells. Leaning closer to the "spells" description. True magic is very flavorful and powerful. Even the lowest of the three circles of sorcery (Terrestrial, Celestial, Solar, in ascending order) has some darn impressive effects. Solar has truely awe-inspiring spells.

More or less, yeah. It's possible to hide your anima display. But heck, even without charms you have one darned impressive character when you consider the amount of power an Exalted has.

Hmm...anime influenced. That could be interesting.

So, does it share any mechanics with the WOD games? or is it a totally new engine?

It's the storyteller engine... with a few minor alterations... for example, the rolling mechanic is a bit different... your target number is fixed. I'm told this is how it works in Trinity and so forth, but I havn't tried those.

Your skill selection is also a bit different; it's dependent on what caste you are to an extent.

But in all the major points, it's still the storyteller system. D10s, the same basic 9 stats, the same damage chart, etc.
