Exalted?

I actually downplayed the anime/asian influence when I ran the game..as I said recently in another post..It was kind of Glorantha on steroids...I emphasized the mythology of the setting...

It IS a dicepool system...I'm not very fam with they system in V:TM or the other WOD games..I've heard people say it's the abberant system which is slightly different...it's also the same as the system in ADVENTURE! Being an old pre-1E grog, my players and I loved the simple quick system....

Yes the PC's are basically demi-gods...but not in a munchkin D&D way...

Ahh right.

Ahh...ADVENTURE. Another game I'm keen to checkout...mainly due to being a big fan of Pulps.

You say that like it's a bad thing :p

It's the storyteller engine... with a few minor alterations... for example, the rolling mechanic is a bit different... your target number is fixed. I'm told this is how it works in Trinity and so forth, but I havn't tried those.

Your skill selection is also a bit different; it's dependent on what caste you are to an extent.

But in all the major points, it's still the storyteller system. D10s, the same basic 9 stats, the same damage chart, etc.

Ahhh. Right. Thanks for the links.

For a comparison factor, Exalted is most like a final fantasy game than anything else I have ever seen. It's a epic, roleplaying intensive game with a final fantasy-anime-wuxia sword and sorcery mix with all the current elements of the World of Darkness reworked in the second age of mankind. In other words, its pre-WOD and pre-common history, dating back before our known history.

like Earthdawn's relationship to Shadowrun...

What?!?!?!?

Am I this out of the loop? I never gamed in ED, but I had a bunch of stuff back in '94 which I read cover-to-cover...

ED's the pre-history of SR, huh?

Who'd a thunk it... I guess they're both developed by FASA...

As for Exalted, I bought the rulebook and the GM screen. There're some cool ideas, but it's not my cup of tea, campaign-wise (it's basically an on-the-run-from-the-law mutant/supers game in a quasi-ancient historical setting).

And the mechanic sucks ass.

The ED/SR thing is a sort of... common theory, basicly. There are some decidedly strong ties (Including a few NPCs), but I don't think it's ever been officialy stated.

As for the "on the run from the law" bit... depends what type of exalt you are. Solars are fighting the law, Dragons are the law, Lunars are a law unto themselves, Sidreal pull the strings behind the laws, Abyssyal Exalted don't care about the laws, Fair Folk (Ok, not technicly an exalt, but they are putting out a Players Guide for them) probably couldn't comprehend the idea of a law...

And the mechanics... well... it's the storyteller mechanic. If you like it it's good, if you don't it sucks. I actualy think it works better for Exalted than most games.

Yeah. Whilst FASA didn't put out a Press Release, there is a lot of evidence in the sourcebooks and novels for both games that show that Earthdawn is the extreme past of Shadowrun. I actually loved that aspect. Of course then I was one of the few who loved the whole Immortal Elf thread/phase that SR went through.

I've even heard tell of there being evidence that Battletech is the future of the SR universe too. Although that might have been just a theory devised by some of the dumpshock denizens.

ED and SR linked...

Check out Living Room Games' (the current publisher of Earthdawn) FAQ. There's a question regarding this..

So, it's a relatively official answer. :-)

Sorry to hijack the thread, I just needed to put that out there.

But...to get back OT.

IMHO, Exalted is great..very colorful, lots of fun...but only *if* your players can get into it.

Do. I just picked up a copy of this at Borders yesterday on sale... couldn't pass it up... It's a very classy book. I think I might tone down the supernatural elements just a tad, but it's a great game overall.
