Sure. You misunderstand; I don't mind them having the option when it's absolutely necessary. When the party's truly had their butts kicked, or they need to cast some Remove Affliction rituals, or whatever, I'm fine with them having the option.

But the fact that it's expensive means that they'll only use it occasionally, as opposed to it being a matter of course.

Rope Trick is 12th level now?

That's nice - from two points of view: It makes it harder to use, more of a big thing if the (higher level) party needs to be safe *right now*

From the "in-game" view: It was always too low - I mean it creates an extradimensional space on the fly, sort of a mini-plane, for eight hours! It's messing around with fabric of reality, planar travel and warping the space... probably all at once. Sounds more like "big magic" than some easy trick every somewhat accomplished dabbler in magic can achieve.
