Exercise: Extoic character backround

First Post
So, over the summer I have read Dante's inferno, Paradise lost and Joan of Arc (by Mark Twain) And I got to thinking....

What if you could play a character that was predestined to become a saint/demigod/other supernatural creature of great power and importance.

If you where playing in my forth coming campaign setting where if you where able to become a demigod like character in some way at higher levels through predestiny (aka a approved backstory) what would you choose.

As far as game mechanics would be concerned it would be a normal 1st ed rule set with the exception that the dm gives you a extra power every few levels that is relavent to you reaching your goal. It functions like getting a class abilty essentially.

I could tell you what I would play in 3.x but knowing nothing substantial about 1st ed I cant really answer the question, as I doubt my idea for a goblin paladin of the god of redemption with ranged smite and riding a dire bat would work.

I wouldn't necessarily look for extra powers per level. I think that shady prophecies that may or may not come true would simply act as the backbone for a campaign. Why is this character/these characters the target of so much excitement? Because they Just Might Be the Prophecied New Gods.

That by itself is powerful reason for the PCs to have factions turning to them for help, trying to stop them, worshipping them, etc.

That's an awesome campaign plot hook right there. It doesn't need any mechanical tweaking.
