Arcane Trickster Rogues who took Booming Blade (or similar) in their cantrips can bring on the hurt. Monks will have to rely on multiattack not tricks. Monster Hunter Rangers can still bring an extra damage die. The situation is grim but not hopeless.

Too bad the Barbarian is now a naked Fighter.

You know @Undrave , I smell an experiment in the works. I think the 5 top classes will be fairly common and I think maybe you posted on this for a group of players to make the five top results as characters for a new game!

Am I right? Huh? Huh!? :sneaky:

In that case. The wizard cast leomund's as a ritual then we rest.

Afaik there is always a run away option. Our 1e mantra was always he who runs away lives to fight another day.
In our 5e games druids seem to have best options to avoid tpk situations.

Actually no, not sure what kind of experiment I could run?
I don't know! It's YOUR experiment. ;)

Seriously, though, maybe wanting to see how well a more "at will" party would do? How much resource-dependent parties have issues when rest becomes an issue.

IME too many 5E games are structured so that a "rest" can be done in most times when needed.

My top pick would be a rogue, since very few of their class features rely on expendable resources in the first place. My second pick would probably be Barbarian, preferably Dex-based for maximum survivability. d12 hit die and +con to AC will mean a Barbarian will last through a lot even when we’re out of healing. Next would be fighter. Also highly survivable, with more ASI levels and extra attacks than anyone else means high damage output without resource costs. Next choice would be Warlock. Eldritch Blast scales like a fighter’s extra attack and has several invocations that can upgrade it. Pact of the Fiend would be best in this situation for heals on kills. Preferably with the Tome Pact Boon for ritual spells. Fifth pick is a tough call for me, as nothing else stands out to me as particularly suited to this scenario, but I went with Paladin as essentially a budget second fighter. d10 hit die, martial weapons, heavy armor, and extra attack at 5th level will mean even drained of resources, a Paladin will be reasonably tough and do reasonable damage per round.
