Don't need spell slots to cast rituals.

Oh snap! I hadn't thought of that... Okay so what if you're too low level to know that ritual? Only level 2 spells and lower?

I don't know! It's YOUR experiment. ;)

Seriously, though, maybe wanting to see how well a more "at will" party would do? How much resource-dependent parties have issues when rest becomes an issue.

IME too many 5E games are structured so that a "rest" can be done in most times when needed.

Good point! Yeah. I wouldn't run an entire campaign like that, but an adventure that really pushes the party to their limit with a strict deadline would probably be memorable to the players.

Or, how about this scenario: You WERE about to bunker down in the Tiny Hut because you ran out of resource when... Dispel Magic hit the hut and you get attacked!
Frankly just "you get attacked while trying to finish the ritual" would work since it takes ten minutes. Assuming the question is meant to be combat-centric.

And I'd just repeat others: rogue, fighter, warlock, ranger.

IMO the sensible answer is still runaway so a party of rogues all disengaging and using their actions to run and hide. We'd probably end up in a montypythonesque encounter of 5 rogues all hiding in the room while the Roman's search it.

Ranger seems like a popular choice, but I’m not really sure why? d8 hit die and light or medium armor means less survivability than a Paladin or especially a Barbarian, and it’s damage output is just kinda on par with that of other martial classes. I suppose a Beastmaster brings an extra sack of hit points with him? I don’t just don’t see it.

I picked it because they're one of the better options for avoiding a fight they don't want to be in and getting that rest that everyone needs.

Ranger is a good option because of the subclass features. If combat is coming up, even the level three features can make a big difference. Horde breaker is a particular favorite of mine. The have good HP with d10, often good AC, work as ranged or front-line so even without spells can be effective.

Also, although Wizard is a tempting option due to ritual caster, a Warlock can fill that roll and have better damage potential via EB when resources are drained.

I suppose that makes sense. For the purposes of the thought experiment I assumed rest wasn’t an option (same reason I didn’t go for the wizard to cast Tiny Hut option.) The point of the question seems to be, if you have to press on despite being tapped out, who do you want o to have your back?” Picking someone on the basis of helping you not have to press on seems like circumventing the actual question to me.

Gnome paladin dual-wielding rapiers.

Sneak away while all the bad guys focus fire him.
