Just threw together a homebrew list of weapons that would fall under the monk proficiency depending on the subclass you chose, to add an east Asian flavor.

I think the design intent is to re-flavor the weapons the monk already gets as asian weapons. Like handaxe -> kama, shortsword -> ninja-to, etc.
 

To emulate the type of concepts seen in many wu xia movies, I'd go with:

Scimitar (Dao)
Rapier (Jian)
Whip
various polearms

Though seeing as they are martial weapons, there may be a need for another subclass of Monk that would use such weapons.
