D&D 5E Expansion Rules Gift set: Should I buy?

So for context. I have both of the books to be directly reprinted (Tasha and Xanathar) and the two monster books that are having their material reworked (Volo and Mordenikien). I have also been lucky enough to get the alt covers for all but Mord.

Should I sell off my existing books and get this set instead?

Advice?

Personally, I have no plans to re-buy. The value of the books listed are all rather limited for me, I simply don't find much of the material that interesting, or that useful at the table. I like them enough to not sell them but certainly enough to warrant buying them yet again. Just my two cents.

Should? No. If you can sell them for a decent price, have the disposable income to pay for the difference, and like the gift set covers? Go for it.

Don't buy it. Wait for the stand alone. The secondary market will be flooded with people ditching their Tasha's and Xanathar's books to pick up the new gift set so you're not going to get much if anything for them.

For some context, the gift set is under 200. I could reasonably sell my Tasha's for 150 and my Xanathars for 350+. And if I no longer need the two monster books due to the updates, I could sell my alt cover for over 700, which is bleeeeep nuts.

Yeah, but hense the thought to sell now, before the new ones hit the market.
Unless you have a buyer already lined up, you likely don't really have an option to "sell now". You have the option to list your books on some site and hope that someone will come along and buy them. About one month before new, updated versions are going to drop. Checking Ebay and Amazon, you can buy new copies of the regular covers for $20 including shipping or the alt covers for about $100-150. So you'd be listing your books at a few pennies to a few dollars less than that...and hoping against hope that someone else also looking to do exactly the same as you doesn't come along and undercut you by a few pennies to a few dollars.
