I don't get why Tracy and Laura Hickman don't have cover credit. Even if this is a 3e conversion with added material, Tracy and Laura came up with the adventure to begin with. Or am I missing something?

Because they didn't write this version of the adventure. I'm sure they'll attribute them in the credits on the first page "Based on the original adventure I6 written by Tracy and Laura Hickman" or something to that effect.

Cover credits are for the author of the current material, not for the authors of source/inspiration material.

I guess that depends on how much of the original they use, too.

With the re-release of the original Dragonlance modules in 3e format, Tracy and crew got cover credit. Clark Valentine and Sean Macdonald only wanted an adaptation credit, which was a nice nod to the original design team's efforts.

I guess I'll have to see the final product before I decide on whether to pick it up or not. I'm actually a little surprised to see WotC releasing any Ravenloft materials, let alone a conversion of one of their most beloved modules. Perhaps there's more in store for the future?

There was a mildy bad reaction to the curious look Strahd had on the cover of new Expedition to Castle Ravenloft book. Having seen the full sized ad in the recent Dungeon magazine, Strahds face looks much less feral as vampires go and just a bit a bit shriveled, the antithesis of the eternal youth vampirism typically bestows. The texture of his hands are similar, though more coarse looking. This is a bit different how he has been depicted in the past.

In the original, Strahd became a vampire after he had already squandered his youth on conquest. So I'm fine without any vampiric eternal youth.

The biggest thing I want to see is a redo of the original maps with todays "3d" mapping technology. I loved the 3d effect they went for in I6 and I hope they do it again with this product.

And personally, I think the new art just doesn't do Strahd justice. Not that the AD&D conversion did either. I still love the original artwork.

Egad, have I become a grognard?

Well, the original module was 32 pages, and the new hardcover is 224. So I think Cordell has a fair claim to principal credit here.

As has been said by others, I am certain they will get a mention on the credits page, just as Arneson, Gygax, Tweet, Cook and Williams do on every 3.0 product.

I had no idea it was that much bigger!

Never mind, then!

I prefer Clyde's original.

Sunken-cheek Strahd = Ugh.

Cheers,
Cam

I agree. This art does not inspire me to want to run or play in the adventure. I'll look it at and give the inside contents a chance to sway me, but with their first chance to lure my gaming dollar (the cover and advertisement)... well, I'll call this strike one.
