Thanks for letting me know where to download it. Took a quick look at it and it looks very interesting.

However, when I clicked on the link in your post all that comes up is a blank page. But when I go to your site and click on the Community link on the left, I get the proper page.

Oh, thanks Alan for creating this new table.

Fixed the link. Thanks for the heads up and from now on i'll check them all out. As to the email, sure! send it to me at josephbrowning@exp.citymax.com, or my hotmail addy suzi_and_joe@hotmail.com

Once I'm done with this I'll be doing a demographic breakdown of occupations per 10,000 people. Right now I've established that for every 10,000 people there is 5/6th of a Magic Merchant. (The image of a fellow missing his lower left leg popped up, but that would be so wrong.:))

send the the info when your done and i'll look at it. glad to see your having fun with it!

For ease, just use the incidence rate. For each profession there's the number next to them that tell you how many people there have to be to have 1 of that profession. For example 1 magic merchant out of every 12,000 people. 1 out of every 7 people is a begger. Look under the heading "Professions" to see more examples.

If you want to retroengineer the random profession table, that's the another way. There are slight differences between incidence rate and the table because of the D10,000 roll. On the table magic merchants will occur 1 in 10,000 as opposed to the more proper 1 in 12,000. Most of the others are pretty much dead on, but there is slight varience. Also, there are people unaccounted for so GMs can put what they want in and not worry too much about population distortions.

If you use the incidence rate for a city of 50k or so you'll end up with... hrm.. cant remember somthing like 45k people accounted for by the charts. Again here's the GMs playroom to customise their cities and not worry about upsetting the needed demographics.

How would you figure out the non-adult population and would the non-adult population have any affect on the amount of food needed by a community?

All population numbers are for adults. Determining the number of dependents will vary a lot depending upon campaign setting, (race, disease, weather). A good rule of thumb is one to two dependants for every adult. Often they'll be more than two to four children per couple, but this includes elderly etc... We took a human average for this, assuming that GMs would alter as they need to for their campaign.

As far as our numbers are concerned, this "invisible population" (ie. children) have been assumed when determining food. They do make quite a difference, but everything in the book has been designed to take them into consideration.

again, i can't recoomend, "An economic history of medieval europe," by NJG Pounds, and "Before the Industrial revolution:european society and economy, 1000-1700," by carlo m cipolla enough. A lot of our decisions were influence heavily by these books.

another download

Thanks for the e-mail Alan. Your second download is now available at http://www.exp.citymax.com and go to the community support page.

I've rearranged the page (not your information :) ) a bit so it should be easier to access and so that when we get more submissions they'll flow in well.

edit: fixed link.

Cool! Another download. Need to hook the laptop up to the printer tomorrow morning. :D

Once you release the book to the public, I'll see about making a couple of maps up in CC2 to add to the downloads.

Thanks! That very nice of you. We'd love to put some of your maps up to help people visualize some of the ideas in the book. The full PDF's about 3-4 days away now. Unfortunaly, Suzi's been called for jury duty so that may put a big crimp in our schedule. We'll see tomorrow....

"I'm sorry your Honor, I cannot serve because I have to edit."

hrm.. probably wouldn't work... :)
