You're welcome. Anytime I get the chance to discuss old school rap on a gaming message board, I jump all over it.

And anytime I get to read about it and compare to the new crap that comes out, I'm all over it, too.

"If you wear corrective shoes, and you've got thick bunyons, toenails smell and look like onions, don't doowhatchyalike, go see a foot doctor tonight."

"Vanessa Williams, ooo you're so divine, just wanted to put your name in my rhyme"

"It's just a freestyle, meanwhile, we keep the beat kickin
sweat drippin, girlies in the limo eatin chicken
oops don't get the grease on your pantyhose
I love ya Rover, move over, I gotta blow my nose"

Too bad the last time I saw them in an interview on the Playboy channel, they said they were currently touring strip clubs across the U.S.

so sad.

It's all subjective, but IMO its not all crap. Certainly the music went through a rough patches with the bling bling era and excessive gangsta rap, but there's so much more of it nowadays so there's also a lot of good music.

Most of the recent rap I like is the stuff that gets called "soft" - radio friendly P. Diddy and Eminem, Will Smith, etc. - or hybrid stuff (songs with a rap in them) like "Put A Smile On Your Face" by Vitamin C or "Lady Marmalade" by Lil Kim, Mya, etc.

But my absolute favorite recent rap is "1,2,Step" by Ciara - feels like 1986 all over again. :D

P.S. to Sebastian Francis: I was just kidding you with what I said earlier about your age - I mess with everyone that way, if you haven't been in a thread with me before. In good fun. Besides, puffing up and trash talkin' is part of the essence of old school. :D

Don't get mad, it's just a talent I was given. What I'm saying's I'm a Slave To The Rhythm. - MC Lyte

I've been told by quite a few people that I do an excellent impersonation on that song - funny, 'cause I'm a big ole geeky white guy. What's funnier, though, is if I do that and then intone just a little lighter, it sounds just like Bill Clinton.

I get laid by the ladies, ya know I'm in charge. Both how I'm livin' and my nose is large. - Bill C.

Old School rap is rap that actually requires talent instead of saying the same inane phrase over and over, saying 'uh' intermittently while occasionally making references to sexual activity and shooting people.

I know, but it's the crap that is overshadowing the good stuff, in my experience.

Agreed, it's not all crap. I think Eminem is a lyrical genious. If you can get around the cursing and shock value, and listen to his CD's (not singles) you'll see he actually has some things to say. Also Ludacris and Jay Z are among my current favorites.

I only WISH I had psychotherapy that paid me as well as his does him. :D
