"Kalidnay was once a great power in the Tyr Region. That changed centuries ago when a force unknown to the other sorcerer-kings abruptly destroyed the city-state, leaving its citizens slain and its sorcererking, Kalid-Ma, missing. To outside observers, one day Kalidnay was a vibrant city; the next, it was an empty shell bereft of life.

Kalid-Ma ruled his city and its domains with iron authority, as other sorcerer-kings do. His greatest lieutenant was the templar Thakok-An, who was a fearsome master of the Way and a ruthless arcanist. During the days of Kalid-Ma’s rule, Kalidnay was among the wealthiest of the city-states, and Kalid-Ma was a formidable defiler who inspired dread in his rivals. "

One thing that caught my attention was the Paragon level artifact and the stat block for a level 30 solo foe. The artifact actually felt like an artifact to me, one I would want to use over an uncommon one. It has an interesting twist in its goals I really liked it. The fluff was great both for the article and the item. Really cool.

Yup. I thought the article was a really great read - good content for Dark Sun, and for the Shadowfell. And it brought back nostalgic feelings for the 2e Ravenloft incarnation of Kalidnay.

I'm hoping we're going to start seeing more bits and pieces of the content that likely would have been in the scrapped Ravenloft game appearing in Dragon/Dungeon where it's appropriate. As a Dark Sun and Ravenloft fan, this delighted me.

This was awesome. I was already planning on an extended Gray "trip" for the Dark Sun party, and this gives them a chance to go up against a pseudo-Sorceror King during the Paragon tier. Also, the 30 solo foe/artifact combo is interesting (I might use some elements of it to develop a Rajaat solo).
