[Fading Suns] . . . I get to play the gunmonkey!

Capellan is going to be running a Fading Suns game for several of us here in Boston, and we did character generation today. I usually tend to run characters where I have to think, plan and negotiate. In this particular sci-fi game, I'll running a cyber-enhanced and brainwashed bodyguard who just stays calm and shoots what he's told. No social skills except intimidate, maxed out "shoot" and combat skills, boosted observation, good tech skills, total loyalty to another PC who he'll be bodyguarding.

I don't think I could be happier.

Even better, I still have fond memories of the old Six Million Dollar Man doll I had when I was a kid. One of the coolest accessories was this mission critical arm set where one of the arms had a hand that folded back to shoot a laser out of the wrist. We're partway through character creation when Capellan mentions that we can choose cybernetic enhancement. "Pick 'tweaked' or 'armed for bear,'" he says. I suffer a flashback to seven years old.

I raise an eyebrow. "Can I get telescopic vision and tweaked reflexes?" I ask.

"Sure," he says. "Lots of options there."

I start to grin. "Can I get my hand to fold back so a hidden laser shoots out of my wrist?" I ask.

"Duh," he answers. "Absolutely."

It's official. I'm in love.

Fading Suns in a great game to play with a GM who really knows the universe. The rules can be a bit wonky sometimes, but in a loveable way. By the way, check into the possibility of getting a prosthetic spine with extra articulations (read spider legs) and self-repair nanobots- dat's DA BOMB! :D

i *loved* playing fading suns. My eskatonik priest is probably my all time favorite PC =)
what a great setting to be a cleric in =)
