Familiar, Familiar, who's got the Familiar?

Greetings and thank you ahead of time for any help you may provide. I know this thread has probably been done before but I have searched and couldn't find where.

I am in search of ideas for a Familiar, or more precisely an Improved Familiar. I have a Human Paragon 3/ Wizard 2 (so effectively 4th lvl caster) with the Improved Familiar feat. I have checked high and low but have had little luck in this area. The list from the DMG precludes me from everything but Celestial <Insert Name>, but they don't really impress me. I have used them before and looking for something new. I have also checked Complete Warrior and liked what I saw but there were problems. The only ones I qualified for were the Worg (Evil) and the Krenshar (Neutral), but as a Neutral Good character the Worg is quickly dropped. So that leaves the Krenshar and it isn't that impressive.

After talking with my DM he said for me to bring him some suggestions. And I in turn ask you for help. The whole level requirements just don't make sense to me, and I think has damaged my brain to the point I can't think straight.

I really liked the Worg (I would prefer a Guardian Familiar), but a non-evil something. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A typical NG improved familiar would be a pseudodragon.

Yeah I really like the psuedodragon but unfortunately you can't get one till 7th Lvl. Also I was hoping for a guardian-type familiar, like out of Complete Warrior.

I apologize for not making myself clearer. I am looking for a familiar for a 4th or 5th lvl Character (Arcane Caster Lvl - 4, BaB - +3).

But if I can not find something new and different I probably will fall back to my favorite familiar. (Had one in 1st Edition)

I'll go totally outside the box and suggest a Woodling Hyena or Wolf. This isn't based on any text anywhere, but just on comparinging them to a worg. They might be a bit more stout than a worg (you might have to bump it down to a badger or weasel, but wth the plant traits gained by the Woodling template they should still be able to stand up in a fight.

Krenshars might not be that impressibe, but man, they've got style. Krenshars are awesome.

Have you used one before? How did it work out? Is it any good in a fight? (Though granted it' fighting ability is actualy down pretty low on my list of what I want.) I guess I am more looking for something intimidating.

Woodling template is in MMIII. The perks are:

grants base creature the plant type
+7 NA
DR 5/slashing
+4 hide in natural environments
but gives vulerability to fire
it's listed as a +2 to CR

It's a bit better than the celestial template, but celestial template only requies 3rd level caster. I don't know, youd definatly have to do some playtesting with it, but I know for my group that's half the fun.;)
