I would be happy to talk to you about using the familiar rules from S&S as the basis for compatible rules in your book.
Arcady, we don't intentionally try to be confusing, we're just all Norwegian goat farmers trying to make a living in the RPG industry. Forgive us if our OGC is not so good!
As for including rules for normal familiars, I guess I didn't see the need. Using the animals from the PHB and the new ones presented in S&S as a basis, it's fairly easy to extrapolate appropriate abilities for such. Just model your master abilities after the ones already presented and you'll be fine.
