Fantastic Four 2 - Excited?

Yeah, there were definitely a few bugs. The first one was incredibly grating when they made the "Chemistry 101" lines--If they want to use MIT without looking like idiots, they need to know the actual names of classes to use during banter.

What percentage of the crowds who saw the film likely would have even known whether there wsa a course called Chemistry 101 at MIT? Likely a very, very small proportion. I'm not sure it's that big a deal...

I never went to see the first FF movie, so I don't know the dialog you're referring to, but it's extremely common to refer to any intro course as "101", whether or not that was the course code at that particular university.

Nobody who goes to MIT calls any of the intro Chemistry classes "Chemistry 101", and certainly they wouldn't say "Remember Chemistry 101?" when reminiscing via witty banter with an old college buddy turned enemy.

At best it is a definite maybe. The previews look cool, but then unless a film is an absolute bowser, the previews always look good. I might see it if I don't have something better to do at the time, like say laundry or mowing the lawn.

Nah, he's actually right about that. MIT students and grads are actually kinda snobby about using a different format, one similar to the way software releases get labeled (1.0, 1.02, etc.) and IIRC not referring to the courses by anything someone not "inside" could recognize, if they can help it. ;)

(Ah. A quick look at the MIT page seems to indicate that, for example, introductory chemistry (Fall) would be 5.04, while organic chemistry I would be 5.12)

Anyway... I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first one (give my relatively low expectations), and the trailers for the second one have also gotten me more interested than I'd have expected. (Perhaps because I've gotten into the Ultimate FF comics in the meantime?)

The FF themselves were good. What was done with Dr. Doom was almost a deal breaker. I'll see part 2 in the dollor show or dollar rental.

I absolutely love the first one. I watch it at least once a week and have not yeet begun to get sick of it. In fact every time I watch it it gets me even more amped about the sequel. I cannot wait!

Are you by any chance being sarcastic?

I was put off big time by how they presented Dr. Doom, one of Marvel's iconic villains, as pretty darn worthless. Should have been so much better.

But I've seen the trailer for the new one, and it looks awesome. If it has Galactus, and he's not a big nerd, I'm in!

I expected that the first one would stink like meat left in the tropical sun for a week, and I was happily surprised that it didn't.
Alas, that was my expectation as well - and for me it was worse that I had expected. That may have been my least satisfying movie of the year. I had just been reading Ultimate FF and re-reading the old Stan Lee stuff, so my expectations had been unrealistically shaped.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new movie. It still has Jessica Alba, a big strike against it in my book, but the trailer was great fun. I'm keeping an open mind.
