On a serious note, this would be a good basis for a mercenary group. Take Hammer's Slammers and Schlock Mercenary only with more swords. Same amount of plasma, though, if you have wizards.

You would hire on as a first-line grunt, dealing with the small stuff. Promotions get you into special details with more involved tasks, possibly including your own staff.

Spoils of war get split with the unit, making for easier GM cash balance ("Why yes private, you did find a ring of regeneration, market price about 90,000gp. Your share, based on seniority, is about 200gp but you get a finder's bonus of about 1800gp. Don't spend it all in one place" or "One of the privates just found a ring of regen, colonel. Your cut is 5000gp.") It also means that you can issue items on a per-mission basis pulled from the company's armory.

This has potential for one-shots if nothing else.....
