Fantasy "biotechnology" and other alterations

%$(% I forgot that even though I bought it the week it came out (Lifeshapers). It is now in the OP. I hope volume II comes out soon!

There is also a two volume set called Lifeshapers by, um...me. (A little shameless self promotion here, sorry!). Anyway the first deals with mutations and mutant races. The second will (it isn't out yet) deal with organic technology and living constructions. Its actually meant for futuristic games but there shouldn't be any problems pluging it into fantasy games as well (there are suggestions included on how to adapt it to fantasy actually).

Lifeshapers Volume 1
Or check out the link below (centerspace)

There is alo a small pdf by LPJ Design called: Accidents at Birth, which has some cool mutant deformity feats and weaknessess.

Do you ever plan on a dead tree version?

What's a dead tree version?... Oh wait you mean print right?
If so...The plan is when Volume II (assuming all goes well that will be December) comes out to put them both in one print book, which would ened up being around 140-150 pages (Volume 1 being 80 and II around 60). Although it will probably be POD-- at least at first, it all depends on my funds.

oh and thank you DHM!

If a POD version does become available, please post the announcement on EN World.

I just prefer my gaming books in hand...

There's the fleshwarper in Lords of Madness, the kaorti in Fiend Folio, the zern in Monster Manual IV, the meenlock in Monster Manual II, and the mind flayers of Thoon in Monster Manual V.

Liber Bestarius has the Beast Lords and has a short description of how they create their critters. Low beast magic is breeding with magical tweeks (one creature mentions faster growth and shorter generations) and high beast magic is taking parts of other creatures and putting them together. The end result of high beast magic does not look Frankenstein-ian. They do have 3 defects (or features)- they are sterile, die in antimagic fields and have a short life span, after which they fall apart into the organs that make them up.

Mongoose Publishing's Encyclopaedia Arcane: Crossbreeding has rules for magical hybridization of two (or more) creatures, including rules for using yourself as one of the "parent" creatures.

Sadly it took me this long to buy that and I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind:

Could a species be hybridized with itself to provide increased stats?
If an intelligent creature is part of the hybrid, is its mind retained?
If so, what happens if 2 or more intelligent creatures are hybridized (ie who's mind remains)?
Is lifespan something that can be gained via this process? I can see a wizard using a hatchling dragon to extend his lifespan.
Could the creature type (or subtype) be different than either of the parents? What kind of penalty would you impose on that?
