Fantasy "biotechnology" and other alterations

I would imagine that the Geomancer's Drift could potentially have an effect if they still manage to find dates on Friday night at closing time.

Heh. Another use for the bloodlines in UA and by 5th Element. I would love to see a setting based on every human(oid?) having a bloodline.

I'm currently designing a campaign world in which Nephilim a.k.a. Planetouched form a great portion of the populace, and "Monster" races using AU/AE racial class levels (as opposed to the WotC versions from Savage Species).

The Nephilim will essentially be a template that can be applied to any sentient being, and each subtype has characteristics based upon the extraplanar ancestor's origins. For example, the ones based on the Fey will have Drift, and so might those decended from beings from the Far Realms. Those with Elemental forebears would have certain elemental characteristics. In accord with the campaign design, instead of LA, the Nephilim template grants its abilities as PC-type levels.

Not sure if I missed mention of this already, but:

Though it isn't D20, you can take a look at the Alchemists of Dirz for Rackham's Rag'narok/Confrontation game:

http://www.confrontation.fr

Not much in the way of rules (unless you get the Cadwallon RPG and perhaps some of the Cry Havoc! mags), but they have an awesome bio-tech feeling. Clones, extra appendages, living weapons and armor, mutant servitor creatures, psionics (essentially), bio-computers, etc.

Rackham's really good about getting a unique feel down, and the Alchemists rock.

P.S. I've used Chaositech to model the Alchemists in a d20 port of Rackham's setting. Didn't go far enough with it to really test things out, but what little I did do was awesome.

What, no love for Chaositech?

I'm shocked it took 19 posts to get mentioned. I have the pdf copy from my Ptolus book, but I still need to buy a hardcopy someday. I love weird stuff like this book.

DMH>Saw your response to the quoted post. I haven't really spent much time looking at the mutation aspects of the book. I'm too busy gawking at stuff like the dragon growing out of the guy's back ;)

Again, I am not saying it is crap. Out of the 3 products Monte did focused on biotech, Dark Space, Windriders of the Jagged Cliffs and Chaositech, WJC is the only one I like.

As for the Koboldnomicon, I don't like parody material in rpgs so I never read it. Where should I put it in the OP?

And as for Rackham, where is the biotech material on that site- I can't find it.

Bioroids, in Transhuman Space, are built and not bred (ie the various organs and tissues are put together in a lab). Rereading the symbiote chapter in Wildwood (actually about grafting), I find the rules and examples are very much like making bioroids. Use one creature (possibly from crossbreeding or magebred) as a frame and replace parts as needed.

Pics of the various Dirz characters:

Overview of their abilities (does require understanding of the Confrontation game rules, unfortunately!)

Online Store (contains character information for the Dirz/Scorpion armies):

And perhaps most informative of all:

Rackham Forum:

Look up any posts about Alchemists of Dirz, Scorpions or the characters pictured in the first link listed above.

Definitely some cool fluff ;-) Hope this helps!

Thanks for the assist!

Another non-d20 game that has a lot of biotech, at least for the aliens, is Burning Empires. The vaylen engineer all kinds of soldier and worker type creatures.

There is also a two volume set called Lifeshapers by, um...me. (A little shameless self promotion here, sorry!). Anyway the first deals with mutations and mutant races. The second will (it isn't out yet) deal with organic technology and living constructions. Its actually meant for futuristic games but there shouldn't be any problems pluging it into fantasy games as well (there are suggestions included on how to adapt it to fantasy actually).

Lifeshapers Volume 1
Or check out the link below (centerspace)

There is alo a small pdf by LPJ Design called: Accidents at Birth, which has some cool mutant deformity feats and weaknessess.
