I love the 'Tough Guide to Fantasyland', a spoof of the 'Rough Guide' tourist books and a very useful index of fantasy cliches to use or avoid. Typical entry runs like:

Nunneries - When the Party Arrive, they will find the Nunnery has just been sacked by Evil Forces. The last remaining Nun will either provide details then Expire or (if Young and Pretty) will survive to Join the Party...

The Xanth novels are good as well as the Myth novels by Robert aspen.

Hawk and fisher are quite nice as well. Its a whole series by Simon Green
