Farscape Rules A Little Wonky?

Slacker

First Post
I've had the time to sit down and read through most of it. While I enjoy the game overall, I can't help but wonder about some of the rules that got through to the final version.

+-1 racial modifiers? Someone didn't figure out that modifiers go up and down at every 2 points. This creates problems when using the point buy system, as well as just being sloppy design work.

Defense bonus from classes stack without any penalties? So a 3rd level character can have a base Defense of 22 (not including Dex or feats) if multiclassed in Diplomat, Rogue, and Scientist. A Warrior (not including Dex or feats) only gets a base attack bonus of +3 at that level. The Warrior can only hit on a 19 or 20. There's no reason for a character to wear armor. Is this supposed to be Star Wars or Farscape?

The powers section looks like it was copied directly out of Star Wars. Where else can you find a power called Affect Mind?

It's not to say I'm disappointed with Farscape. Far from it. It's just that I see such a great game that could have been better with more sound rules and design.

Yeah, I feel like I have to play Farscape before I can really endorse or condone the game.

The whole Farscape game seems to lean into making the PCs combat gods.

The single digit attributes, adding the constitution SCORE to first level hit points, the cumulative defense bonuses, and the half action standard attack that could give 11th characters up to six attacks around.

Then again, most weapons do 3d8 in damage and Bolt of fury does a minium of 1d8 damage.

And while a Diplomat/Rogue/Scientist may have a DB of 22 he has still has a BAB of +0. (actualy my Lizardman Druid with Leather armor has had an AC of 21 for most of his career).

And personly, I would never send up a level = level threat to PCs. A 4th level warrior with weapon focus and a +3 ability bonus would have a +8 to hit with a 1d8 sword. Or if he squeezed in weapon finesse, he could pull out 3d8 Pulse Blaster Rifle against a max hit points of 49.

But the system looks fun, so I need to get some time under my belt on this game before I pass verdict
