Fast, Abstracted Combat for Minor Encounters

When the object is getting past the monsters, I tend to use a modified version of Stalker0's Obsidian that I call 'Lethal Obsidian'.... the players have the option of spending healing surges to get more checks in a round, each round has an attack against all the PCs, and any failed check results in damage to the PC/group.

It has worked out very well and cut the combat time significantly.

I have also done 'skirmishes' with 3e style encounters.. one of two standard monsters against the group instead of a full encounter.
