FATE: Anyone played this?

Hi All,

Anyone here playing Fate? It's a pretty cute action RPG similar to Diablo (random dungeon, not much of a story line) with some elements from games like NetHack (like a pet). Anyway, you can find it at www.playfate.com. There is a demo that lets you play up to a sixth level character and go down to the third level of the dungeon. It's $20 to unlock the demo. Not a bad price, I think.

It's got a few interesting features like a system of Fame for gaining noteriety that unlocks powerful items and there are fishing holes. If you feed your pet (a cat or dog at first) fish, it transforms temporarily (and sometimes permanently) into more powerful creatures.

Yep, I've been playing it for several days. Defeated the BBEG last night. I've been going down further into the dungeon looking for a nice item to use as a family heirloom to pass onto my next character. Very fun game and well worth the $20.

Yeah, that's one of the other interesting features: When you complete the main quest (which is also randomized, so it'd a different BBEG every time) you can retire and pass on one item to your next character.

I'm only down to the 16th level of the dungeon so far. I'm playing a spell caster. I had a staff that gave me a +14 Attack Magic Bonus (plus a lot of other bonuses). I came back from the dungeon with about 500K worth of treasure and found one of the merchants was selling a staff with a +24 to attack magic. I bought it for about 100K and promptly took it over to Rikko to have him enchant it further. He added lots of enchantments and 4 sockets! I was down to about 60K in gold and thought "what the heck, one more try". The last try took ALL the enchantments off it. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I guess I got greedy.

Now I'm a wizard with no staff and no money. Man am I screwed. Fortunately I know where there is a fishing hole on the 16th level. Hopefully I can get something valuable out of that...

It sounds like they're going to release a patch to beef up attack magic. That'll be good.
