First Post
I keep a log of the books I read, and as I've started seeing posts on various forums about the best books of 2003, I thought I'd start one here. I will split it up into the best 3 of various categories.
The following three sections are books that I read for the first time in 2003 only.

Book of the Year (Fantasy):
1. To Ride Hell’s Chasm, Janny Wurts

2. The Briar King, Greg Keyes
3. Paladin of Souls, Lois McMaster Bujold

Book of the Year (Science Fiction):
1. Ilium, Dan Simmons

2. In Conquest Born, C.S. Friedman
3. The Tomorrow Log, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller

Series of the Year:
1. A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen, Steven Erikson
2. Dresden Files, Jim Butcher
3. The Monarchies of God, Paul Kearny

This covers all genres.

Best Reread of the Year:
1. The Curse of Chalion, Lois McMaster Bujold
2. Night in the Lonesome October, Roger Zelazny
3. Dune, Frank Herbert

Books read:
--Fantasy: 149
--Science Fiction: 50
--Other: 10

--Total (new/reread): 209 (164/45)

Any others with a short list of their favorite books? Most of my comments about these books can be found in the previous monthly reading threads.
