Favorite gods from...

I like the religions from the Song of Ice and Fire books, particularly the Seven - Maiden, Mother, Crone, Warrior, Smith, Father, and Stranger. I use them as one of the major pantheons in my campaign settings. They're the two Jungian triads plus a god of death and outsiders.

I also like the lord of the sea from the same series, the god of the Viking analogues.

I ran a very successful campaign a few years ago where the gods were basically the D&D demon lords, occasionally with a transparently changed name. Dagon was important, because it was a pirate-seafaring type of game. Graz'zt was the most popular local god. Orcus was the god of death. Even Fraz'Ur'Bluu (sic?--I called him Frazer Blue) got in on the action.

Lately I've modified that somewhat--I renamed the gods, mostly from names I stole from Phoenician, Slavic and Etruscan gods, but mapped those names to the somewhat evolved descriptions that came from my demon-lords campaign. So, my gods are at their root, D&D demon lords. But they've evolved a fair bit since then and aren't immediately recognizable by any means.

  • Cthulhu
  • Dagon
  • Ptah

Lost Gods
  • Hel
  • Sobek
  • Arioch

A Lithuanian inspired Pantheon. On the surface it's obscure, but from what we know it's close enough to various Norse/Slavic conceptions. I've added a dash of Celt;

Quite obscure; I was having some trouble finding any information about Perkūnas after I read the Case of the Toxic Spell Dump. Do you have a good source for information about it?

Hmmm...

Forgotten Realms: Loviatar, Sune, Lathander, Bane/Bhaal/Myrkul, the Elemental Lords (Akadi, Grumbar, Kossuth, Istishia), Asmodeus (but Pathfinder actually got me to REALLY like him), Bahamut, Tiamat, Waukeen, Elilstraee. Special mention goes to Talona, Shaundakul, and Azuth (in 2e, Azuth could let you use wizard items).

Pretty much the whole Egyptian Pantheon.

Odin, Thor, Baldur, Frey and Freyja, Loki.

Pretty much the whole Greek Pantheon.

Guan Yu, from Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Buddhists and Taoist revere him to this day.

... I think that covers it.

Oh, yeah, Baron Samedi.
