I voted 9, mostly because it was the one I could sit through the longest after having played through 7 and despising most every minute of it. It was after that I stopped saying, "Oh, I'll play it a bit more to see if I warm up to it" when I didn't like a game.

of course, I haven't played IX or X since neither one was released for PC...

I still, after all this time, can't believe that...it's just...well...unbelieveable...

Ok, old thread, but I'll chime in.

I'd say of the choices listed, VII is the best. It's probably my favorite in the series. I don't have a PS2, so I can't cooment on X, but I liked all the FF games on the PSX. And I agree Tactics should have been on the list. That game is one of my all time favorites of all videogames ever made.

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 both had disappointing sales on the PC, if I recall correctly, which isn't surprising considering most fans of Final Fantasy already owned a Playstation if they wanted to play the games.

Yes ...

But if I never got FF VIII for the PC I would never buy the PS2 so I could play FF games.

My favorite is FF X because its the only one I was able to beat. (I got bored in FF IX and there was a slight insane dificult boss in FF VIII that made me give up ...)

Of course FF X-2 is already out.

I always though FFVII had the hardest bosses. Demons Gate and Carry Armor were SOLID.

VII actually sold pretty well, mainly because it was released (if I recall correctly) around the same time as the console release. VIII wasn't released until a year after it came out on the PlayStation, and it bombed for that very reason... or so the fellows at the local Software Etc. put it.

I remember how exciting VII was... it was like no other game released on the PC to date. It represented a major paradigm shift in PC game graphics... even if they look primitive six years later. :)

VIII was my favorite, though. I just loved the cut scenes... and Squall (I'm a sucker for teen angst... heck, I'm 21 and I still haven't gotten over teen angst...)

VIII brings bad angsty memories for me. I never beat the game, but I got all the way to the end and fought the last boss so many times, coming so close...I can't even play it now, since its over at my father's house and I don't go there much anymore. It's almost karmic that I didn't complete that and then the next few never come out on PC...
