Favorite non-human PHB race.

Another vote for dwarves from me. What's not to like about axes, beards, and ale? Gnomes would be second choice, followed by halflings.

I loathe D&D elves.

I can't really say, that I like them, but that's ok.

I wonder, how many vote dwarf because of mechanical reasons (they are probably the most powerful race in the PHB) and how many like their stereotypical image... we'll never know...

It's not mechanics for me. I liked dwarves back in the 2e days. I prefer the flavor of dwarves to that of elves. I can't stand the typical snotty D&D elf. If they were real elves, ie, Noldor, I'd like 'em more, but they're not, so I like dwarves.

i generally play my elves like their noldor or sindarin counterpart. ie not snotty.

Hmmm... from the PHB? I'd have to pick dwarves. Since I generally play in the Kingdoms of Kalamar campaign setting, of course, I prefer hobgoblins or half-hobgoblins as my favorite nonhuman race. Humans are actually my favorite because their cultures make them so different as to not be blase.

But for just the PHB I tend to go for Elves, mainly becuase I enjoy playing rangers/rogues and swashbuckling types. Elven nightvision and dex really helps out with those types.

Admittedly playing a dwarven warrior with his axe or warhammer is a lot of fun too.

I'm going with halflings. Had a string of them in 2E and my first character in 3E was a halfling monk and my current halfling rogue is kinda like a chihuahua, a lil guy with a BIG chip on his shoulder. So just as dwarves seem to be 'traditionally' Scottish, my halflings are Latino (very much like Eddie Guerrero).

Dwarves. Surprisingly versatile, and damn effective.

I wish half-orcs had more to them than +2 Str and Darkvision. As much as I like the Horde, all they can do right is break things.
