My favourite class has changed now and then over the time I've been playing 1e-based games.
It's easier to list the classes I don't play, or don't play well:
Monk (never a fan)
Cavalier (yet I love the class!)
Paladin (mostly because they're banned in the games I've played in)
Bard (we've rejigged them so they can start at 1st-level)
Assassin (I can play them OK but the party keeps killing them...)
Thief (not sure why this is; maybe it's because I've had to play so many as NPCs)
I can rock out on any of Fighter, Ranger, Cleric, Druid, MU, Illusionist. My main Ranger phase was when I first started playing. Then I got into Fighters - still love 'em! Then I discovered what Illusionists can do...loads of fun! And there's never anything wrong with playing a flash-banger MU...provided, of course, they can find the spells that let 'em bring the flash-bang...
As for 3e, I played for quite a while but only really had 3 major characters (thus only got to delve into 3 classes):
- a Fighter-Wizard (first 3e character, didn't realize how dumb my idea was; he stopped at Wizard-1 and went all Fighter once I learned better)
- a Ranger who played like a Paladin
- a Wizard, spec. Illusions, no evokation.
