Feat every level...

...nothing at all? I mean, you play exactly out of the core rules, as written, no more and no less? .... other than the feat thing, I mean.

I believe he means he didn't use any house rules to try to counteract the giving of a feat every level. The game Crothian runs for our group has very few house rules. There are some, but not many. The other ones do not appear to have been done to make up for giving a feat at every level.

I see that now.

I missed it then.

Doh. :o

So anyway, what's it like, having one feat per level + class and race stuff?

We are still early into the campaign, around upper 3rd level now. So far it has been very nice getting a feat every level. You can take some feats you might not have otherwise taken or felt like you needed to pass up. In many ways I think this actually lets you do things to really fit in with the character you are trying to develop. So, early in the campaign now, but I am really liking how it is working. I will most likely use the house rule of a feat every level in future campaigns I run.

It wasn't phrased the best. None of the few other house rules though have any bearing or impact on the feat per level thing. I perfer to run things as close to by the books as I can, I don't need lots of house rules since I have lots of books to use the rules in them. :D

No kidding. The guy whose group I usurped for the summer won't do a feat every level. Everyone really liked it, but he "doesn't want to change the rules that much".

Argh.

He doesn't want to do "players roll all the dice" either, and everyone really got into that too. I'd forment a revolution, but I'm still something of an outsider.

As the former DM in this group, Crothian has caused a revolution, but its great! When I was DM'ing it was my first time back after a long absence from the game. So I restricted us to only WotC books and very, very few house rules. I would have thought a feat every level was insane and no way was I doing it. Heck, we even played in the Forgotten Realms - I bled WotC! I also worried about keeping up with a myriad of options at that early stage.

Now that the campaign I was DM'ing has ended (due to a one short of a TPK and that one short still being trapped in the Underdark for the most part), Crothian picked up the reigns. Now we get to use all sorts of books that I had been afraid to use and a small number of thought out rule variations that have made the game even more fun from a player's perspective. All of which have not resulted in a crazy munckin game of any sorts.

So don't be afraid! Start that revolution, it's fun!

dont know if anyone has suggested this, but if you give out a feat every level, why not give fighters a feat every level too?

that could help them maintain a higher number of feats than the other classes
