I saw that you give the extra feats to classed NPC's... but do you also give extra feats to regular-old monsters?
There are a lot of nifty feats good for monsters not only in the PHB and MM, but also in Savage Species and Sword and Fist. If the PCs suddenly all have easy access to Power Attack, then so should the Colossal monstrous scorpions :]

This also allows a monster to get some feats that it makes sense for them to have in the first place (Knock-Down, Remain Conscious, Large and in Charge, and a wealth of Savage Species feats come to mind). In particular, it lets you give the Crush feat to those oversized vermin. Never fun to have a Colossal monstrous spider land on you ;) And who could resist Fling Enemy?

First, I want to mention the Advanced Gamemaster's Guide has some suggestions for playing with how often characters get feats, and I found it all to be well thought out.

Second, I have played in games where everyone gets a feat at every level, and found fighters lose out nothing. In essence, because they still get extra feats, they can still power through feat chains faster, meaning they still have combat feats earlier than anyone else.

Third, in those games the group often simply took on CR+1 or CR+2 encounters slightly more often, or woeked through more encounters in a day. It all worked out.

Which is what I like to do as a DM. After one group had to fight a room and rest and then fight a room and then rest...and they did that for 30 straight rooms, I figured my adventures were a bit hard or the PCs were a little weak.

Or not very skilled at resource management :P

And was this a high magic, low magic, something in between, or magic-void setting?

in theory it was medium magic, but it looked like low magic since none of the players took a magic using class.

Well then...

That's not poor resource management, that's masochism! So what were the specifics on these characters? Now I'm curious.

P.S. Sorry about hijacking the thread. Feel free to continue discussion of the feat every level thingy in the background :p
