Feat every level...

I wanna do it

I game with a really good group that goes by the RAW. I love it. But if I get my own game going ever, as a DM. I would love to try this feat every level thing, (along with some other UA rules) So let me get this straight, there is no perceived power level differenct with getting a feat every level? Don't the PCs had a whole lot more options now? I personally thing options and flexability is good, but does the massive amount of options make the PCs good at too many things?

There is a power increase, it just is not much of one. The big thing is what feats do you allow. Complete Mage has some cool feats in it. If you are using feats like Shifter or Dragon feats that build off of each other, it can get really good. My Shifter gets a +10 bonus to tumble, Jump, and balance when shifting now and he's only 5th level. So, with feats like these that build off each other they can get pretty good fast. Even so, I don't think it has been a problem. When I see what kills things and makes our encounters easier it is either the power attacking spike chain fighter or the druid buffing up the monk.

So there is not so much a power increase but the players get more options. I think this can make for a more fun game, but can be a bit of a head ache to DM. I like having more options. Do you also increase the amount of skill points in your games? Or otherwise, give more options for using skills. I would think the combo skill +2/+2 feats can work to make skills more powerful too.

Ya, we give a couple more class skills and skill points. And don't kid yourself, even with more feats no one takes the +2/+2 skill feats :D

It is more options for players and I tink that is a very good thing. I've also found out that it makes multi classing look better since the players will be able to take feats for rogue and cleric instead of just one.

Actually, I've been thinking seriously about giving 2 more skill points per level, but haven't decided to go for it yet.

I agree entirely with that.

I like the idea of feats every levels, but... do you do that for every PC as well as NPC and monsters with class levels? I dont own any of the Monster Manuals, so I print them out from the SRD... but even then, do you go all the way into twitching their stats too?

And if you don't, isn't that unfair on NPCs?

First off who cares about fairness to the NPCs? The most unfair thing about NPCs is the N in their name. PCs get a single person to define and play them. The story is all about the PCs and the game focuses on the PCs. There are NPC classes that are weak and not close to what the PCs get access to. So, my point here is that it was not like NPCs and PCs are equal in the core game to begin with.

And ya, I give bonus feats to the bad guys. :D

Has anyone done the 'feat at every level' into Epic levels? What was your experience?

Epic levels are something else. I did the feat a level all the way to 35th level. I could see a lot of what we did as being mechanically powerfull, even at those levels. One character's smite was adding in a hundred or more damage and when she critted it got even worse. But it was fun for everyone. As long as I could handle it as DM, and I did I let the players to hog wild. High level gamnes are not easy but I've done them for twenty years so for me it wasn't that much harder to keep them challenged.

But it can be argued I don't run the typical D&D campaigns. :D
