Feat progression for a 2-Hander Fighter?

feats

I've got one in the netbook of feats called "Pain is My Friend" Its a sort of mini rage abbility. You get a +2 bonus to strength if you hurt yourself a bit.

That would put you at 19 giving you +4 damage normaly, +6 witht he 2-h weapon, as opposed to +3/+4 you have now.

I find great weapon fighters are all about strength and power attack. Anything that ups your to hit can make it easier to power attack. I'm playing in a d20 L5R game. The feats in there are about twice as strong as typical feats. But I have a no-dachi focused lion samurai, and they guy is a killing machine.

They have the way of the lion feat which gives you a +2 to hit anyone wearing armor, so long as the bonus is not greater than their armor bonus. And whats worse is it's a stackable feat. Combined with power attack, It's just brutal.

We also have some neat team fighting feats in the Netbook of Feats that give you bonuses when fighting with other characters that have the same feat.

Crothian - And upon that recommendation I just ordered all 6 of em that I could. Quint Cleric, Wizard, Fighter, Rogue, Dwarf, and Elf. I'm always looking for good new material. I'm really excited about those Fighting Styles you mentioned!

Sigfried - Way of the Lion Feat? I'm unfamiliar with L5R but perhaps that's an interesting sounding feat. So monsters with only natural armor are unaffected by that feat?

Way of the Lion

You are skilled at precise strikes, attacking opponents through the joints and seams of their armor.

Prerequisites: BAB +1, Str 13+

Benefit: You gain a +2 competence bonus to your attack roll if your opponent has any armor nad/or natural armor bonus to AC. Your total bonus may not exceed the total bonus they gain from armor and natural armor. You may gain this feat multiple times. Its effects stack, providing one total bonus.

The main problem is that you need Combat Reflexes to get it. There's nothing stopping you from choosing it, it's just a "dead feat" unless you get a Dex improvement item (a +4 item, or a +2 item and +1 Dex for 8th level).
Combat Reflexes is always good for reach weapon fighters.

If you have a high Dex, you can make more AOOs. If you have a low Dex, and always loose initiative (and even Improved Initiative will not always help you, especially in surprise rounds :) ), you still get your AOO.

My Ranger/Fighter had several situations where his combat reflexes really made the difference - not because of the number of AOOs, but because of the fact that the enemy - winning initiative - thought he could just ignore my Reach. :)

Halberds are probably the highest-damage weapon that can be readied to receive a charge. Hold the Line tends to reinforce that aspect of the weapon, and Hold the Line requires Combat Reflexes. It's also on the road to Expert Tactician if he can pull +2 Dex somewhere. So Combat Reflexes is not much worse than, say, Dodge.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if there were some feat in a Quintessential book that allowed a guy with Cleave to use all polearms as 20' reach weapons*. If you can convince the DM to get that one, then pick it.

* This is based on the "20' Bow Reach" feat in Quintessential Elf that required only Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot. Yes, a feat better than the Combat Archery epic feat available at 1st level for human fighters!
