Feat recommendation for Paladin

Improved Smiting is the feat you want (Complete Divine). +1d6 smite damage. Smite attack overcomes DR x/good creatures (demons and devils).

Definitely get Divine Might. Get Extra Smiting at level 9 and level 12 and level 15 and level 18 (it stacks). With your 20 charisma, its well worth it.

Don't worry about Cleave. I would not touch a second divine feat, keep your turns for divine might and the occassional turn undead when your cleric isn't available or is out of turns.

If you don't do mounted combat very often, then the Mounted feats are mostly flavor. If you didn't have the Reroll feat, I would have recommended Mounted Combat as the extra 1st level feat.

Feats for a Human Paladin
1: Power Attack 1: Reroll Feat
3: Improved Smiting
6: Divine Might

Definitely get the 5 ranks of Knowledge Religion: good flavor and helps turn undead.

Your character does not qualify for Extra Smiting before 9th level because Extra Smiting and Divine Might aren't available to level 4+, and you want to take Divine Might at level 6.

Reroll (House feat that allows 1 saving throw reroll per day)

Now that's a feat OUR paladin would need! The poor creature died twice on a 2+ save already. :p

Exactly. I have the best overall saves in the party, but I also need to make more saves than any other party member. I always seem to end up in the AoE. I am usually the one singled out for the nasty spell.

Best feat I have.

:p

Don't suppose your DM would allow feats from other sources perhaps...?

*doesn't think much of extra smiting or improved smiting*

'Resounding Blow' from BoED is pretty damned good. IIRC it's either Fort or Will save based on 10 + lv/2 + Chr mod on a crit, (you have a rapier, keen it up!!!), or your foe can't effectively act for a round, (can't remember what the condition is called).

It's also a pre-req for 'Quell the Profane' which also requires a crit but on an evil creature, it calls for exactly same save DC but it's based on the one that RB isn't and does Str damage.

So on that crit you force 2 saves, 1 Fort and 1 Will, or they suffer bad stuff and lots of damage.

what about diehard or Endurance

DIEHARD = When reduced to -1 to -9 HP you automatically become stable. you may act as though you disabled, not dying. This would be good since your always up in people's faces and probably taking the most damage.

ENDURANCE = You gain +4 on the following checks and saves : Const. checks to remain running, Swim checks, Const. checks to advoid damage from forced marches, Const. checks to hold your breath , Const. checks to advoid damage from starvation or thirst , Fort. saves to resist damage from hot and cold environments and suffocation

All the damage saves is nonlethal damage

With all due respect to the Isley Brothers...

I suggest you take extra smiting. I will argue for it in this filk song of "Shout":

Well, you know you make me wanna
(Smite) Get my sword up
(Smite) Push the evil back
(Smite) Throw my smackdown
(Smite) Come on now (Smite)
Don't forget to say you will
(Smite, Smite) Don't forget to say
(Smite) Yeah yeah yeah yeah, come on
(Say you will) Say it right now, baby
(Say you will) Come on, come on
(Say you will) Say it right now, baby
(Say you will)
I still remember
When I used to be nine years old yeah, yeah
An' now that I’m grown up
I'm old enough to know
An' I wanna serve thee
You want me ta smite the foe
I want you to know
I said I want you to know right now
You've been good to me, Lord
Better than I've been to myself
And if you ever leave me
I don't want nobody else
I said I want you to know
I said I want you to know right no
You know you make me wanna
(Smite) Get my sword up
(Smite) Push the evil back
(Smite) Throw my smackdown
(Smite) Come on now
(Smite) Don't forget to say you will
(Smite, Smite) Don't forget to say
(Smite) Yeah yeah yeah yeah, come on
(Say you will) Say it right now, baby
(Say you will)
(Say) I know that I love thee
(Say) I know that I need thee
(Say) I know that I want thee
(Say) I’ll never leave thee
(Smite) Come on now
(Smite) Come on now
(Smite) Come on now
(Smite) Come on now
(Smite) A little bit softer now [repeats]
(Smite) A little bit harder now [repeats]
Hey (Hey) Hey (Hey)
Yeah (Yeah) Yeah (Yeah)
Smite now
A little Smite now
Jump up and Smite now
A little Smite now
Come on (Smite now)
Come on now (Smite now)
Come on now (Smite now)
Come on now (Smite now)
Come on jump up and Smite now
A little Smite now
Jump up and Smite now
A little Smite now
Jump up and Smite now
A little Smite now
Jump up and Smite now
A little Smite now, yeah

The condition is cowered. But it requires 7 ranks of Intimidate, so that's not really possible until 11th-level paladin as a cross-class.

I've been playing a paladin for a year now (level 10) and the one part I really don't like about smite is when you are fighting a construct or animal or some other tough foe that your smite does nothing against. They could be the minion of the big bad, and their work ultimately results in bad things happening, but because they are not evil, smite does nothing.

I would consider divine vigor. It would allow you to stand and fight longer and give a necessary boost to your movement (be it only for a short time). Divine Shield is great too for when you need to frustrate your foe.

Hmm, I guess you can use power attack with a rapier. I thought it was classified as a light weapon, but apparently only in the context of that it can be weapon finessed.

I'll be the voice of dissent, take improved toughness! Better yet, try to become an assimar. Then you'll be another celestial paladin guy. ;)
