Feats for a mystic thurge?

What do the two earth feats do?

Earth Sense gives you the ability to detect the presence of foes that are touching the ground within 20 ft. Direction only.

It is a prerequisite for many nice feats. Earth spell amongst them. Earth Spell lets you raise your caster level and increase the spell level in conjunction with Heighten Spell (also a prerequisite for Earth spell).

Races of Stone, page 138
Earth Spell [General]
You draw magical power from the earth beneath you.
Prerequisites: Con 13, Wis 13, Earth Sense, Heighten Spell.
Benefit: As long as you are standing on stone or unworked earth (including normal soil), you can use the Heighten Spell feat to added effect. If you cast a spell using a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level, the spell is treated as a spell of two levels higher and your effective caster level is increased by one. If you use a spell slot two levels higher, the spell is treated as three levels higher and your effective caster level is increased by two, and so on.
You cannot gain the benefit of this feat when casting a spell with the air, fire, or water descriptors.

Earth Spell helps overcome the two shortcomings of the Mystic Theurge: Lower Caster Level, and lower spell DCs, but it is expensive in feats. I haven't found an "ideal" spell to "earth" yet, but I'm looking :D. That cones no longer get larger due caster level, is a pain. lightning bolt is a fixed line...

I'm playing a 3/3/3 mystic theurge. I used a couple of feats for Point-Blank Shot and Precise Shot. Those let me be of more use while I built toward mystic theurge (and fell way behind the power curve doing so), and they're of use with ray spells, so I'm pretty happy with those choices, although most people probably wouldn't take them.

I grabbed Craft Wondrous Item and have made huge use out of it. Spell Focus has been handy. I also talked my DM into modifying Practiced Spellcaster (+4 to one class' caster level) into Versatile Spellcaster (+4, divisible among one or more class' caster levels). So instead of +3/+3 (the extra +1/+1 is wasted on an efficient theurge, at least for a while), I'm +2/+2. You never know, your DM might go for it. It certainly hasn't proven unbalancing in our game.

I was considering Divine Metamagic (until it got erratum) or Divine Spellpower for my next feat. (The idea is to make use of my otherwise nearly useless Turn Undead ability. But with a 6 Cha, there's not much going to waste for you.) I'm also considering Spell Penetration, and maybe discussing the faith feats (Complete Divine) with my DM. My theurge is a Wee Jas adherent, and I've been playing that up since the very beginning, so I'm hoping he'll be open to granting faith points to power the faith feats.

Otherwise, I echo many other previous suggestions: metamagic (especially Quicken, as your 15th-level feat) and item creation make strong use of the theurge's strengths (i.e., lots of spells).

Dwarf... well. Practised Spellcaster once is usually enough... depending on your spell selection. Metamagics are costly and you don't have too many high level slots.

What's your level, anyhow? For low level survivability, you might even start with a fighter level...

Dex 14... a little bit ranged combat might not hurt (PBS, Precise & Rapid Shot as mentioned).

Otherwise, go with Wishs suggestions and think about what you will do with the 4 left levels (if you plan to play that long).

I don't think Quicken Spell is going to be that easy to use, since you are 1-2 spell level behind a single-classed caster, or 3 class levels if you prefer (you have to be at least 12th level before you can quicken 1st level spells).

Quicken

A lot of people here seem to be against Quicken Spell for a Mystic Theurge... As a player of a midlevel Mystic Theurge (11th) I HIGHLY recommend it. It will be my next feat. Granted, you dont have many high level spell slots... but you have a LOT of spells. I rarely cast anywhere near my full complement in a day with multiple encounters. And half the time I need to cast fifty spells at the same time.

My advice is to make sure you take Quicken Spell at some point.
