Damn! That amp is seriously Sweeeet!

And it doesn't just look good, it's got all the bells and whistles. But I wonder if you can get it made with different tubes. 6L6's are nice, but I'd want more bite like a Marshall (some EL34's...):D

I keep telling myself I need to rob a bank so I can have the start up cash to do a custom business. It never amazes me how many people will pay for someone else to build their gear.

Danny, a lot of the cool stuff is actually pretty cheaply made (cast pewter, etc.) and could replace your existing hardware. For about $2000, you could transform your existing amp stack into something very similar, and save yourself a ton of money.

You don't even have to be very skilled in the manufacturing to get it to look and sound good (most guitar amps are not made to very exacting standards due to the quality versus distortion/volume problems).

I had a buddy that made custom cabs for PA and audiophiles; they were very exacting, but people didn't want them, because they didn't sound "normal". :)

Thunderfoot, I'm so inept with making things, I could start making an amp, plug it in, and it would spring a leak. :D

Now, designing things is another matter entirely.

I like making things. It's pretty much just a wood box, stained, with nice corner trim and pretty metal knobs and a grill over the cone.

Mount the hardware inside and you're done.

I wouldn't want to take it out of the house for a gig, for each of getting scratched or beered.

But conceptually, it's a pretty light project.

While I have successfully used hand tools like hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers and saws, and have experience working with cloth, I've never made anything out of metal and my only exposure to electronics was one semester of Electronics Club back in 1985, and that just covered terminology and diagramming- nothing hands on.

I might be able to build a beautiful cabinet, but the electronics- y'know, the stuff that matters?- all beyond me.

Well, in this case it's easy.
Find an existing crappy cabinet and whole sale rape it for use in your custom cab. An old Marshal, Crate or even *shudder* Peavey could be de-boxed and set inside your custom job with zero electronic work. And even what little electronics that would need to be done are simply black wire/red wire stuff.

And if you really need a hand, I would gladly come help you out for the price of a plane ticket, parts and meals. :)
