Answering this will be a fine way to get this thread closed. Since we're not in a locker room, posing it in the first place is a pretty good way of pissing off your friendly neighborhood admin. I suggest we don't go there, and stick to the topic at hand.

Many thanks.

And I know many female GMs through the RPGA, although I'm also friends with five or six who I didn't meet through gaming cons.

I think a sizable number of male gamers simply haven't reached a maturity level where they are aware that females are pretty much members of the same species as they are. They probably are still amazed on some level that women do not have their own separate language.

I will say that the hobby has come a long way from the days when I would go to a con and literally have a crowd gather, not because I was cute but because I was a female DM.

That's HARSH!

Hope you're seein' a shrink for all the hang ups you obviously have?

Sorry PCat. I'm new to posting here and find the strange and fickle nuances to what is acceptable and what isn't confusing to my juvenile brain. Twas a simple jest, nothing more. I'm in a fog still baffled by the fact that there are 19 female DM's in this world and you know them all. ASTOUNDING, I say!

Love the story hour btw.

I'll be good, from now on - I promise.

No worries. No harm done. :)

The question was so bad, as opposed to the cascade of potential hijacks that it could set off. I might be over-sensitive, too, but in this case better to err on the side of caution.

Well, I've gamed with tons of women or girl gamers, but only actually had one as a dm!

Maybe this is cuz I'm the dm in prolly 85% of all the games I've been involved in; I know that at least one, prolly more, of the females I've gamed with took up dming later at some point.

I would like to point out that some societies (at least some Mayan indians) have two different languages: one for men, and one for women.
Yes, that was the point of the reference. When you have a society where women live entirely separate lives from men--different houses, different communal activities, married couples do not live together in any way--it's not uncommon for them to speak different dialects or even different languages.

Ok...let me just state for the record this post is not being submitted by some immature pud-yankin' mama's boy who is afraid to leave the basement, and I resent any implication to that effect.
You inferred it; I didn't imply it. Believe me, if I wanted to say "dungeonmastercal is a luser!" I would have been plain.

I don't understand the continuing fascination with the topic either. Of course, I'm all old now and so are most of the people I game with. At our advanced stage of decrepitude, "Wow! A girl!" is just not the first and continuous thought in the guys' heads, and "Great gender ratio in my favor!" is similarly not foremost in the minds of the gals. It's a much mellower atmosphere for female gamers.

Which is to say it seems to be like advice given about getting dates or making friends--when you try too hard it has the opposite effect.

in the 20 years I've been gaming, I've met a handful of girl gamers. None of them were DMs. But then, most of the guy gamers I've met were not DMs either.
What percentage of female DM's are hot?

All of them, of course. ;)

Seriously though, its that attitude that helps alienate female DMs (and players). The most common refrain I hear from female gamers on these boards (even in this thread) and in real life, is that they don't like being ogled by the males. They just want to game and have fun.

The terrible irony, of course, is that most males would love nothing better than to be ogled by the females, they just don't want to admit it.

Another one of life's cruel little jokes.

Gals: Ogle a guy today. You'll make him happy for a week!
