Female DM's

I've come across a lot fewer female Gm's than Male ones, but I think the quality of the female GM's was somewhat higher (though the average is skewed by the armies of socially retarded male GM's I've crossed path with by attending conventions:))

Best Legend of the Five Rings GM I've ever crossed paths with was a girl.

She was also wicked in bed:)

I'd love to meet anyone from that gaming group, just to know what they though about this pair of eleven-year-olds who joined their campaign. I know at my age I'd be inclined to be not super-tolerant, but they were great. I felt like a complete member of the group.

I DM'd a 12 year old in a group of adults - son of one of the other players - and it was awful.

But I felt obligated, in a way, to give him a chance... because I started playing as a six year old in a group of adults.

I look back on that group in bemusement and awe. I have no idea how they could possibly have even considered letting me in.

However, my parents (who introduced me to the game and to that group, and were also a part of the group I DM'd) assure me that even at 6, I was a far more tolerable - and productive - member that the twelve-year-old...

There were two female DMs in that original group (my mother, and a woman who joined as the wife of another player, and who we eventually discovered was in fact my second cousin!) and while neither of them were the best DM in the group, they weren't at all bad.

Since then, I've had several female PbEM DMs, ranging from I-still-have-nightmares to stellar in quality.

I have never, not once, in my home games had a female DM; several players, but not DM's. Just the circles I run in and the nature of gamers in my area, I'm assuming. One thing that Gamedays and Conventions have done, is expand my circle of known lady gamers. Some are as cutthroat as Gary Gygax in his prime when playing a killer module; some are softies when It comes to character death. ALL are good gamers that I've met, and I'n glad to know them.

They probably are still amazed on some level that women do not have their own separate language.

oh, but they do...

That does not prevent them from being a good DM, though.

I don't think women can be good GMs. I know that some of you may think you had a good experience, but you were probably just looking at her womanliness. Really, the extra little bit on that last chromosome pretty much inhibits any kind of dungeon-planning ability, and then, instead of the DM Gland that produces DMatonin, she's got ovaries. I mean, c'mon, what kind of DM can you be without DMatonin flooding your system? Ovaries, man. Ovaries and an extra thingie on her last chromosome. I just don't see how anyone can be a good DM without DMatonin and with all that other weird stuff.

(Trolling aside: While I have never gamed with a female GM, that's more due to my lack of networking than to anything else. I see no reason to believe there's that big a deal, and little reason to believe that female GMs are going to be meaner, nicer, more into roleplaying, more into killing stuff, smarter, dumber, or anything else than a male GM with the same level of experience, planning, and personal maturity.)

In over 20 years of gaming I've never had a female DM. Wish I could find one though for a couple reasons.

1) I always run games... I'd be happy for ANY other DM. :)

2) Girl Gamers have been some of the most creative and immersive players I've ever had. I imagine that if those same players applied their creativity from behind the DM's Screen that I'd be in for one heck of a game.

Of all the many DMs I've ever had, by far the best of all has been the one female DM, Stalkingblue.

Thus, women are better DMs than men.

QED.

;)

My first DM was female (my first group actually had more female players than male players for a while). My wife is an excellent DM and I always look forward to her modules. And the best DM I've ever gamed with was also female (KidCthulhu).

I'd love to play in a group with a lady DM. In over 20 years I've only been in three single sessions where a female was a player. Two of those were disastrous. The other was at a con (Big Weekend for anyone living in sunny Brisbane!)

I think the ladies bring a wonderful element to the gaming table. I'd be honoured if I could convince one of my friends of the female persuasion to join the current group but, somehow, I just don't think it would work ...
