Fencing

Has anybody made a prestige class for a fencer? I'm thinking an unarmored figure wielding a light sword and perhaps a dagger. I know there's one in Sword & Fist, but I don't have that. Has anybody come up with their own?

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but one of the FFG Legendary Class Contest submissions was a master fencer. As for wielding a dagger, would Inigo Diego Montoya have resorted to the treachery of stabbing with a dagger? On a somewhat unrelated note, I think a set of feats representing that sort of training, or even a seperate core class, would better represent fencers. Hmmm...a project...

Well, no, Inigo Montoya wouldn't have used a dagger. But then he didn't study that style of fencing. There was one, trust me, in which the fighter used a dagger in parrying his opponent's blade; the French called this dagger a main-gauche (lit. "left hand"), and it was that style I was considering, among the many out there.

There's no halfling mafia? You mean I've been paying protection money to some kid?!

I don't know of any home made ones that use sword and dagger but if you have access to Quintessentil Fighter there is a fighting style in there that does this. Also in either OA or the Rokungan book there is a prestige class that short of fits what you are looking for. It's has an oriental feel, but should easily be reworked with few changes to be more medieval.

Or, there's around 90 fencing-style prestige classes in AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures. It'll take some tweaking (and editing) to use, but there's a lot of crunchy goodness in that book. It also includes base classes for both swashbucklers and musketeers.

In all honestly, out of everything people have mentioned, the one in S&F (originally in Dragon... gah, I forget the number) is the one I like the best.

The dualist is great, but he specifically asked fopr a class that uses a sword and dagger which a dualist does not.

The style of fencing you're referring to (rapier & other) is known as Florentine and comes from, big surprise here, Florence Italy. You re not limited to the dagger by the way, but often fighters used a small net, cloak, or pistol. Unlike French-style fencing you stand facing your opponent (the French point only the weapon side at the opponent) directly.
