Feng Shui, Paranoia and other such games

I LOOOOOVE Continuum, from Aetherco. One of the best darned games I've ever seen. Of course, I'm a nut for time-travel, so the thought of such an advanced time-travel game really gets to me.

But in truth, I've played dozens of different RPG's. I really can't think of them all, because I've probably given away or sold more than I've kept.

If you are fans of the show you cannot go wrong with Buffy and Angel. The books are absoklutely great reads, and it is a funb fast system.

Well, in addition to D&D, I play/ have played:

--WoD (most of the 1.0 systems)
--Exalted
--Orpheus
--All Flesh Must Be Eaten
--TORG (Yeah, I'm dating myself: what of it?)
--Call of Cthulhu (Classic)
--Feng Shui
--Buffy TVS
--Lord of the Rings
--Deadlands (Classic)
--Deadlands (Hell on Earth, classic)
--Ars Magica
--Cybergen
--Champions
--Paranoia/Paranoia XP

For D20, I play:
--Lone Wolf
--Babylon 5
--Midnight (technically D&D, but even so..)
--Farscape
--Ravenloft
--The End

I have to admit that I haven't been able to play much non-D&D or WoD stuff, but this is not for lack of trying. I've actually got a small collection of interesting games (In Nomine, D20 Modern, GURPS Discworld, Ninja Burger, etc.) which have simply gone unplayed because I'm unable to scrape up anybody who'd be interested in playing, even if I GM'd.

At the moment, I'm being rather enamoured of Nobilis, which is probably the most complicated setting I've laid eyes on, though the system itself is deceptively simple -- in order to even make a character, you have to ask yourself questions like, "What is Wisdom (or whatever Platonic ideal my character has power over), and if I add or remove it to or from an object, what happens?" As an example of this, I'm planning on running a test game online, and so I gathered up a group of about nine potential players and then got them to make characters and backgrounds and so on. I've lost about three or four people to the inability to think abstractly enough to actually even play the game. Very disappointing, but I suppose not unexpected.

Games we have played other than d20:

-Lots of GURPS in various mini campaigns
-A very small Buffy Campaign using a segement of Masks of Nyaralothotep (sp?) for the old CoC set in Shanghi, I was a ex-cultist Watcher.
-PenDragon: which is really a great system as long as everyone wants to play the archtypal characters. The newer editions have magic users, but i don't think they would work in mixed game very well. I could be wrong.
- Unknown Armies. I and one other player love this setting and game, the rest of them hate it, so we probablly wont play it again. Its a shame really.
-Space:1889, which is fun, although we ran into a problem with it that we frequently do: characters that didn't work well in the setting/campaign.

I have bought but not played in both the old WW Adventure! and Aberrant books. I recentlly got the new World of Darkness book and would like to use it to run some Ghost Hunter type games, maybe with a little Tim Powers-esque ghost eaters in it for good measure. But I find it highly unlikely that my little group will want to do so.

I've played far too many over the years, but currently, I'm running a D&D (Eberron) game and a new World of Darkness game is starting up in Jan.

The list of what I've played is far too long....

I'd love to get an Earthdawn (2nd edition) game going, but I can't convince people in my group....

Character creation is very loosely classed, mostly allowing you to develop whatever package of skills best suits your goals.

Alternity is the best classless, level-less system ever, which is a big accomplishment for a game that still has classes and levels. ;)

I know that the vast majority of posters here on the ENWorld boards play D&D but what other games do people play.

What about everyone else? Are there any other systems that you have "discovered"? I'm sure that there are a whole host of little RPG's out there that are a blast to play but haven't been able to get themselves the mainstream profile for one reason or another. Thoughts?

A selection...

- Shadowrun
- Midgard (german fantasy RPG)
- Deadlands (original)
- Champions/HERO
- Talislanta
- Mekton/ Mekton Zeta
- Earthdawn
- Amber (diceless roleplaying game)
- Tales from the Floating Vagabond
- The Morrow Project
- TORG
- Call of Cthulhu (BRP)
- Vampire: the Masquerade
- Cyberpunk 2020
- Star Wars (d6 and d20)
- Stargate SG-1
- Mutants & Masterminds

Never played Feng Shui, but it sure looks like a lot of fun. :)

Bye
Thanee
