"Elise, would it be the correct thing to do in your culture to defend an ally's freedom from imprisonment until hearing of the alleged crimes? I do know that back home, no one had the right to do something like this."

Confused and suddenly stressed, Elise starts moving toward Sunny "I don't know... but this... I don't know, if Sunny.. no, no I don't know" Elise follows the group "We'll figure this out, it's gotta be some mistake, we'll work this out"

"Ah, you would also like for me to work this out. It is good, then, for we must defend the vhal of our comrade until it is proven otherwise."

*Lasair takes a step towards the mayor, smiling gently with all of her substantial non-psionic powers of persuasion.*

"Excuse me, good sir, I would not seek to impugn the vhal of our Holdmistress, but it truly makes us uneasy to simply allow a comrade-in-arms to be dishonoured and incarcerated without knowing anything of the charges yet--you must understand that as foreigners, who are already thusly at a substantial disadvantage in such proceedings, we may feel somewhat threatened if our first chance to deal with the charges is from an even more powerless position with our ally already in jail where we must somehow prove that he should be released, rather than from a position where he is at the moment free, and we may at least have the comfort of knowing that the burden of proof lies on the prosecutor, at least for now. Can we not at least hear the charges, quietly if such is the best way, to put our minds a little bit at ease?"

(OOC: Diplomacy +9 and ready to throw in a maxed-out Charm if this doesn't work)

Elise stands to the side of Lasair, in an attempt to add the weight of her presence, to the conversation.

OOC [sblock] Aide Anouther? eh? :D :) :\ :( :uhoh: [/sblock]

The mayor, looking even more cross, looks at Lasair again and says "Look, I'm even less happy about this than you are Miss, but this is not something I intend to discuss outside of the Sherrif's office. If you come with and insist on putting your nose in this very private affair, then you can come with us to the office."

Lasair [sblock]You feel that you are offending him by asking for this to be brought into public more than a failure in your diplomatic skills.[/sblock]

(OOC:[SBLOCK] Aww, so a 'you fail' ? Well I did say 'quietly, if such as the best way' . Lasair doesn't necessarily want it to have to become public, but she isn't going to allow him to be imprisoned before hearing the charges, at least not without using her psionics / a fight.[/SBLOCK])

OOC: [sblock]Actualy, that was a successfull Sense Motive check more than a failed diplomacy check[/sblock]

(OOC:
[SBLOCK]
Right, I was figuring it was more of a fail because it was wrong than a failed Diplomacy check, or a 'you fail' .
[/SBLOCK])

"Please? You don't have to make it public...just whisper it quietly to me, and I swear by what little of the vhal that I still hold within me that I will not give this information to others...I just need to know the crime before I can feel comfortable with his arrest."

*She clutches her hands together in supplication with a worried look on her face and breathes in and then out deeply in concern, causing her chest to rise and fall as she does.*

"Please?"

(OOC: Diplomacy +9 again, and manifesting a DC 14 Charm if there is not a positive reaction)

The mayor, sighs saying in a low whisper "Well, it's rather personal, and involves something potentialy touchy with my family. I'm willing to let you all accompany him to the Sheriff's office, where we can talk freer. I'll even let one of you stay with him when we interogate him, but more, I realy feel uncomfortable with saying out here, in any voice."

Hoping this satisfies Lasair, the mayor turns back and catches up with the guards.

Lasair [sblock]He was suppressing an increadable anger to speak as he did to you, but he was not deceptive.[/sblock]

*Lasair is not satisfied with allowing Sunny to be taken to the sheriff's office, which is completely under the thumb of the local authorities, but she needs to ask one question first, and not to the mayor:*

"Sunny...The mayor has accused you of a crime that is personal and potentially touchy to his family. Are you guilty? Do you know of any such that you may have committed over the past few days--did you perhaps steal some of his clan's water or women, or insult his family's honour as host?"

Sunny stammers a bit as he says "I... I can't th...think of anything.."

Elise, Lasair [sblock]Sunny seems a bit worried about something, but didn't seem to lieing.[/sblock]
