Fey!

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
i thought i had already done this, but i guess not. :)

i'm looking to compile a list of all fey creatures from previous editions of the game which have yet to be converted to 3E stats in an official source. it strikes me that perhaps fey are underrepresented in 3E, so maybe this would make a good proposal to send to Dragon magazine. :) we have a few new ideas to work with as well, but you know how we at the Creature Catalog site love our conversions.

specifically, i want the name of the creature, and where it can be found. i'll start by getting some of the obvious ones out of the way:

Monster Manual (1977):
Brownie
Leprechaun

Fiend Folio (1981):
Booka
Forlarren
Killmoulis

Monster Manual II (1983):
Atomie
Buckawn
Korred
Nereid
Quickling

so, i am building a list of everything that there ever has been. come on, maybe it was in a hardcover book, a module, Dragon or Dungeon magazine, a boxed set, a regional sourcebook, any campaign setting, any edition, but all must be official TSR products of course. ;)

some creatures require interpretation to decide if they are actually fey or something else (Monstrous Humanoid, Aberration, something else?) but if you think it could qualify as a fey, go ahead and mention it. :)

"A fey is a creature with supernatural abilities and connections to nature or to some other force or place. Fey are usually [but, not necessarily always] human-shaped."

Has the vanilla Sprite, from the Monstrous Manual (and many other sources) appeared anywhere official? The 3.5 Monster Manual covers the Nixie, Pixie and Grig, but not "Sprite, Common" ;)

The brownie has been updated on the WotC web site, here.

But here is a list of fey that are in the Creature Catalog, but which I don't think have appear anywhere officially yet.

Actaeon
Asrai
Bramble
Chac
Chevall
Dobie
Ekrat
Faedorne
Faerie Fiddler
Faux Faerie
Feystag (Calygraunt)
Flitterling
Frost
Gorse
Hamadryad
Leshy
Pech
Shargugh
Shatjan
Silver Warrior
Squeaker
Stwinger
Urisk

I happen to have a folder full of loose 2e fey-related monster sheets. I don't remember why; they've been there for years.

MC 14 - Faux Faerie
Forgotten Realms Appendix II - Firetail ("A frolicsome fey creature of living flame")
Forgotten Realms Appendix II - Frost
Forgotten Realms Appendix II - Lhiannan Shee
MC 2 - Kilmoulis
MC 4 - Brownie, Quickling
MC 4 - Brownie, Buckawn
MC 4 - Booka
MC 4 - Giant-kin, Spriggan
MC 4 - Sprite (Atomie, Grig, Sea Sprite)

The substance that makes up the folder itself is D&D Creature Crucible I: Tall Tales of the Wee Folk.

It included the following sylvan creatures as player characters in basic D&D:

Brownie
Centaur (not fey)
Dryad
Faun (a renamed satyr)
Hsiao(not fey)
Leprechaun
Pixie
Pooka
Sidhe
Sprite
Treant (related to dryads and fauns)
Wood Imp (a degenerate fey race)
Woodrake (explicitly a type of fairy)
