Fiddling with haste

Apparently, hong meant that a hasted caster will cast his faster faster (thus having more options for movement or whatever), but still not be able to cast 2 per round unless using quicken spell. However, I'd agree that from the spell description in the first post, it looks as if a hasted caster could cast one action spell reduced to a free action, and cast another spell.

Yeah, that's basically what I meant. When unhasted, you can cast two spells per round, max (one as a standard action, one as a free action from Quicken Spell). When hasted under this mod, you can still cast two spells per round, max. The difference is that both of them are free actions.

I thought about ruling that a hasted spell counts as a quickened spell, and that would fall under the existing limit of 1 quickened spell per round. However, that would lead to the odd situation where you could cast more spells unhasted than hasted.

Also, it looks as if haste would rule for characters planning to use both spell casting and attack actions. Cast a spell as a free action, move up to your speed, and launch a full attack with a +4 bonus. Before, even a hasted character would have to choose between moving and casting, although they could use a partial charge, and they wouldn't have a +4 attack bonus either.

Hadn't thought about that, but that seems fair enough.

The main weird thing here is that you can cast the free quickened spell, then take the move... really being able to choose one or the other may work a bit better.

Why is it weird?

Because a spellcaster gets more 'time' from haste, since you can cast a spell and still get the extra move. A fighter simply gets the move...

Perhaps the choice should be either reduce the cast time of one spell or take a single extra attack at your highest attack bonus when using a full attack, like a weapon of speed?

Edited for poor choice in wording.

The fighter also gets the +4 to attacks, don't forget.

Sorry, too complicated for my tiny brain. :)

As for a speed weapon, that would also be changed from granting an extra attack to providing a +4 bonus on the attack roll. As a bonus, this also clears up the existing murky interaction between speed weapons and haste.

As do wiards when spells require attack rolls. Really, ir's just something that's odd for me, so I'll forget about it, I suppose.
