Fields of Blood: The Book of War has been pushed back AGAIN!

Fields of Blood is the one D20 book that I'm MOST looking forward to, by FAR. Just my luck, it's also the most delayed book by far as well... I'm gonna go sulk in the corner now because of this news. :(

Quitcher bitchen!

Waah.

That's meant to be the sound of a baby crying, spoken in a deadpan voice.

Here's the thing. I'm a full time game designer. . .for *Decipher*. They pay me nicely and get 40+ hours of work outta me.

Oh yeah, and I have to drive about 3 hours a day to get to work.

Oh yeah. . .*and* I have a life. Not in the sense of "and you don't" but in the sense of "and my Eden work has to compete with everything else."

So stop yer bitchin! I'm doin' the best I can down here! It's slow work!

Tell you what though, by the end of this month I'll be done with Waysides (I hope) and move back to the Book of War. I'll put out the word here, when that happens, for playtesters and, until we fill up and have too many, you'll get to check out the system before it comes out.

I love working with and for Eden. Love working on d20 stuff. Don't get me wrong. I can't wait for the book to be done either. I need it too! I've got two campaigns waiting for it!!!

It's clear what your job is not: customer relations.

Re: Quitcher bitchen!

Look at it from our point of view though. Fields of Blood was announced early last year, to be released last Fall. It sounded like EXACTLY what my group needed. We waited and the book was delayed until Winter. No problem, delays happen, I understand that. Winter became Spring and frustration began to build. We expected the book a half year before. Now we are being given a Summer date, but from what you're saying, that may be debatable as well. So, if you have so little time to do your Eden Studios writing, why did they give us a Fall 2001 release date? Why give us a Summer 2002 date?

Myself and my group decided to go with FoB due to the strength of your writing and ideas from the Liber Beastarius preview. We were planning on buying at least 4 copies for the group. Now the plans we made for the book have to either be delayed, or we have to go with another system. We would NOT have made these plans if the release date that was given was more accurate. Hell, I would've been happy with a "It will be released when it's done" date. Instead it feels like we're being strung along, just like Master Tools has been doing for the past year and a half. I'm willing to wait for all 3 books that you're writing for Eden, I just don't want to be led along expecting the books to be out at a certain time when the writer can't (Is physiacally unable, not meant to refer to a lack of dedication) get the book written in the time alloted. A month or 2 late seems to be the acceptable norm in the small press D20 buisness, 3 or 4 months sometimes happens but when a book is a YEAR late, there's something seriously wrong with the planning end of things (Look at Master Tools development nightmare). I may be whining and bitchin' but there's a real desire for these books it seems. I wouldn't say anything I wasn't looking forward to FoB as much as I am. I'm glad that you're willing to update us, but I can't help but feel it may be too little too late for some people. (Not me, I still want this book :))

Hey, I'm with you guys! I'm not *genuinely* ranting about complaints. I'm being what we here on earth call "funny." I was one of the thousands of people who waited 3 years longer for Diablo 2 than I was originally told, and 18 months longer for HALO (longer, actually, if like me you're waiting for the PC version,) and god only knows how much longer for Warcraft III, I'm deeply aware of what it's like to wait for something past when I was told it would be out.

Waysides and the Book of War aren't taking longer than I thought, they're pretty much on track related to when I started work on them. The Liber, our monster book, took a lot longer. Even when I thought it was done, I had to go back and add several thousand words of text and monkey with the layout.

And it's my sympathy for everyone in this regard that prompts me to say; 'hey, when the books farther along, in a month or so, you guys can come help playtest.' So those of you who are desperate for the system, like me for instance, can get your hands on it before it comes out. Which is to say; 'I'll give the system to you for free.' That's a hell of a thing, seems to me. :)

And you know what, everyone bitching about this really does make a difference. Knowing how many people are out there desperate for this product fills me with hope and enthusiasm for it. So bitch away! Don't take my rants seriously.

blatant thread plug....

I'm going to buy "Fields of Blood" when it comes out, but I need to run some large scale battles some time in the next few sessions. I need at least a quick and dirty set of rules, so I made some up. I need some comments though, so I put them up in the House Rules forum. Any advice or constructive criticism you could give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ian
