Fiend Folio

the Jester

Legend
I for one am stoked that the ol' FF is going to be reincarnated in 3e. What I'm wondering, however, is what's going to make it different from the MM2? I know, I know- NDAs and all that; I'm not asking for information on the content, just for any hints anyone could drop about... well... what makes it different.

The original FF was a bunch of creatures made by fans; is the new one based on a similar concept?

Is it packed full of stupid crap? I loved the original, but let's face it, for every great monster like the githyanki in it there was a loser like the thork.

Are they going to have totally over-inked crappy art?

What's the deal? Anyone know what, if anything, sets it apart from the MM and MM2?

Thanks in advance...

I'm usually not the biggest skeptic, but I am given to wonder if the FF is really authentic. I mean c'mon, they are just releasing the MM2... how many more monsters do we need?

But perhaps when assembling the MM2, they chrurned out too much stuff, and they had enough on the cutting room floor to merit a new book.

Psion,

I heard a rumor that the FF was going to be planer-type monsters and that the MM2 was going to be about more conventional ones. So each book has a bit of a theme.

Of course, stress should be placed on the word "rumor".

Hey BiggusGeekus, that's the most info I've gotten yet!

I like the idea of one being "planar" themed, as long as it isn't overdone. I mean, do we really need that many planar monsters? I wouldn't mind if, say, half the book was planar goodies- especially if they included a bunch of the old unconverted "must haves" (course, everyone's opinions on what those are varies...)

I would be very disappointed if there were no outsiders in the MM2.

Speaking of the monster books, does anyone know whether the stuff WotC has published in various modules, online, etc. will be in either book (or perhaps spread over both of them)? F'rinstance, the yugoloths from MotP, the githyanki/zerai, the grell, the various templates from MotP, etc. I know that's always been done in the past and I wouldn't mind having some of those things collected up but I suspect that they aren't gonna take it too far... but I have nothing to base that suspicion on! Oh well... maybe someone "in the know" will chime in sometime...

(hard cover) 224pg. $29.95
By: James Wyatt

The Fiend Folio gives D&D Dungeon Masters and players information on creatures of every type. including dragons, but with and emphasis on fiendish monsters such as demons and devils. This title debuts new creatures, updates those taken from earlier editions of the game and from other sources such as magazine articles. There is specific information on how to integrate these monsters easily into a campaign of any level, in addition to new abilities, magic items, and spells. Approximately 80% of the material in this title is completely new.

I hope the new information is them going into greater detail on certain, populiar monsters. That would be cool.

And plenty of new Oozes.
