Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss - Web Enhancement

But more on topic, any web enhancement we get, as much as I don't like archfiends presented as big yet wimply monsters that make a farce of the situation so people can kill them and feel awesome about themselves, I want pure, unadulterated fluff more than anything else. Give me more descriptions of abyssal layers, give me more lore and history on random abyssal lords, etc. Don't give me crunch I'm just as liable to junk as I am to ever use it.

i'm not interested in seeing a web enhancement based on demon lord stat blocks. we already have the Demonomicon, BoVD, ToH, and more than one place on the internet for that.

i am interested in seeing this, however:

The original turnover included a short description of this layer, but the whole "short descriptions of minor layers" section was cut, presumably for space.

I've suggested to WotC that the material would be good for the web enhancement or even a follow-up Dragon article, but I haven't heard back from them yet. We'll see.

I also think that the fluff thing would be a good idea.

I mean, I've invented dozens and dozens of my own Abyssal layers, and I own a copy of Planes of Chaos, but you can never have too many.

I ran my last planar campaign into the 30s, and my current one is around 17 right now and will be going past 21 well into Epic levels.
Do you think your campaign represents most D&D campaigns? That's why I included that word. ;)

But just out of curiousity, where do you get the notion that most or even a large number of people on Enworld don't play DnD but just like to read the books?
The pre-crash thread about who publishers should write for -- readers or users -- came down pretty squarely on the side of the readers, as I recall. The folks who actually buy products to use them were squarely outnumbered.

Now, that may mean that people who do play D&D buy books they don't intend to use and want all books to be written that way, but one can also find a lot of people referencing that they can't find games, either in their signatures, comments they make or the entire board dedicated to it here at ENWorld.

I'm heading home in a second, but if someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll toss up a poll at some point soon.

From WotC's Site:

"For the D&D website, we’re planning a horde of content to coincide with Fiendish Codex 1. For starters, R&D came to the website team with a request; while the FC1 sourcebook contains a number of demon lords (just take a look at the Table of Contents to find out which ones), R&D wanted a fair representation of their aspects. These will appear on the website throughout the month – 11 aspects in all.

Material cut from the sourcebooks due to space considerations often make ideal web enhancements; unfortunately, not every book has this available. This month, however, we have been given such “cutting room floor” material for FC1—including a new monster, a new detailed abyssal layer, and several short layer descriptions. Plus, we’ll offer a look at the artwork of D&D’s demons throughout the editions, tactics & tips for combating various demonic foes, and even more specialized half-fiend templates."

That last paragraph gets my heart all a'flutter.

looks like i'm getting what i want after all. ;)
