Mystara/the Known World gets... um... even as a Spelljammer fan I have to admit it gets better treatment than this. Every great once in a while Dragon throws it a bone, and that's pretty much it. Has a single creature originating in this setting made a Monster Manual from WotC? :(

OTOH... choker, kopru, aranea, neh'thalggu (aka brain collector), umbral blot (aka blackball), and athach - that's six at least. ;) i'm sure there are more.

Why not lump in a bunch of less popular Outsiders? They could do it like a "Races of ..." book, and have sections for 'Loths, Slaad and Modrons.

Then a chapter on one major race from each of he Elemental planes (Djinn, Efreeti, ... uh ... yeah, others).
Now that sounds interesting.

A book just on Yugoloths - no thanks.

OK, OK, I clearly am not as familiar with Planescape as some of you and made a careless statement that wasn't entirely accurate. I do know that the obyriths are a NEW concept for FC:I and I saw their evolution more in Eric Mona's work in Armies of the Abyss/Book of Fiends with the qlippoth without knowing that there were subtle seeds already sewn in Planescape that opened the door for them.

HOWEVER, I still don't think that my point is invalidated--the 3e designers over the last few years have seen fit to pick and choose the elements of Planescape that they thought worked, and ignore elements that they didn't rather than slavishly follow in the footsteps of their 2e predecessors. I STILL believe that these two books (not to mention Manual of the Planes and others) demonstrate that quite well. So an intimate familiarity and slavish devotion to the Planescape yugos does not seem to me to be a necessary prerequisite for working on a FC:III, is one is indeed in the works at some level.

It might be a good idea anyway--because IMO prior to Planescape, the daemons/yugos seemed to be somewhat lacking in direction or high concept and therefore struggled to find an audience as important or integral to the D&D cosmology. And even then, I think the Planescape take on them is somewhat divisive--some folks love it while some think the whole development of the yugos is hoaky.

What really freaks me out is why Dragon Magazine hasn't published any articles on them in their magazine. I know quite a number of people have submitted yugoloth articles, but I haven't seen a 3E yugoloth Dragon Magazine article since.....well, heck, never! (the article on Battleloths doesn't really count).

The question is why?

It isn't because there's no interest or a lack of interest because its obvious there's some interest in them. I hope what Shade said comes true: the reason for no yugoloth articles in Dragon is because they're planning an FC3 on them.

it's a theory some of us like to posit, at least. :)

i know that Erik Mona (and others, methinks) has specifically stated a desire to do yugoloth articles (i think he even asked people to send in queries on that subject, IIRC), and people have sent in such queries... so time will tell.

Yep. Erik asked for it in an issue of Dragon within the last year, I believe. IIRC, it was in a reply to a letter asking for more yugoloth stuff.

Overrated and them ain't yugoloths (no offense). They fill a completely different niche IMO.

Pants,

Not sure they are "over-rated" just not always as cool. Some are, though, like the servitors for some. (Especially the Company men.)

*agrees with Shem that Quips were a good way to transition into Obyriths*

Overrated as in the entire Book of Fiends. The daemons are not my style, but I don't hold that against the book.
